I want to free float my colt ar15..to prevent having to remove the muzzle device i thinking of using a 2 piece gas block like yankee hill specter.will this be as durable as one piece clamp on style? It is a carbine length gas system but ill be adding midlength handguard so it has to low profile.

It'll probably work just fine so long as you're not planning any excursions into a war-zone anytime soon. I'd just make sure to evenly torque the bolts, and you should be g2g.

This and blue thread sealer. I have found out the hard way that some of the slim free float hand guards have to be installed and then the gas block slid into place and either pinned or tighten the screws, it's a real pain. Just do a test fit before securing everything down

How will you get the old gas block off without taking off the flash suppressor?

I was going to try to cut it off Are you one of those people who really shouldn't handle guns? Why on earth would you cut it off? All you need is an AR-15 multi-wrench and elbow grease. Maybe a vise and upper block if it's on tight. Even if it's pinned on, the only thing you have to do is grind off the top of the weld.

Chill out..sorry i wasnt clear. Current gas block is the front sight base..so i was think of just keeping it but cutting it down to avoid removing flash hider.

But your question was specifically about whether a two piece gas block would work so that you wouldn't have to take off your flash suppressor...This isn't adding up

Sorry ttuhunter4..after my initial post i did some research and came across the idea of cutting the fsb to keep as gas block. So i decided to just do that instead..as long as i can trim it up without removing

Just drift the pins out. Make sure you do it from the correct direction.

Any Pictures on this ? Ive changed out a few gas blocks and added a few things on my AR's. It sounds cliché but youtube can be informative on some things.
