Either elusive wildlife xlr 252 or coyote reaper from predator tactics.

While they look good in advertisements, the varmint lights are a waste of money in my opinion. I tried some of them and wouldn't recommend a unit that mounts on the scope or rifle because you need to move it around to search for eyes with it and that's a safety issue for me. Most times you need to shoot quick and that may end up with you shooting something you didn't intend to kill. In the early days when I hunted mostly solo, I settled for a spotlight unit and had it mounted to a tripod with a swivel head. It was a lesson in frustration. I later graduated to a night scope after being educated in Night vision and seeing it's improvement on my kill rate. Now I have digital and thermal scopes + viewers. Nothing is safe. With the availability of cheap digital and traditional night vision around these days, I'm surprised the varmint light manufacturers are still in business.

Exactly, if you have $30 to spend on a varmint light off of amazon, surely you have $600-1500 to spend on night vision. Use 2 lights. One for scanning, and one mounted on your rifle. Scan with the handheld, when you find what you want to shoot, turn it off, flip on the gun light, and shoot it.

Way overpriced but I have been highly impressed with the red coyote light.

You can hunt with a handheld spotlight and have success. It's just not so easy.
I started using an Elusive Wildlife Technologies XLR250 several years ago, and it works fine. I can see out to around 200 yards with it, I think, but I would imagine the quality of your scope could help or hinder.
The Laser Genetics ND3 Subzero is a nice product also.
I do think it's much better to go with an entry level night vision scope if you can swing it, though. I've had a Photon XT for several months now, but haven't had an opportunity to put it to work. I've taken it out on the back 40 at night to fiddle with it though, and I really like it. Hopefully I will be able to look at some pigs through it just before they die in the next couple of weeks.

If a $30 dollar light is all you can afford now, it's better than nothing. If you can afford a decent night scope+ illuminator, do it, especially a digital scope that you can use during the day without worry of accidentally blowing the tube.

That I agree with, but they will never put the light companies out of business. Lots more guys on my budget than yours. I will NEVER fault a man for spending his hard earned money on stuff. I just can't afford it, so the lights will have to do for now.

Make dang sure you get an adjustable mount for the flashlight that will adjust for up and down and right and left. If not, these are worthless past about 50 yards. They work great at much longer distance if you can center the beam with your scope.
