The QDMA, Quality Deer Management Association reported the following:
Texas hunters harvested 325,008 antlered deer this past season with Michigan number two harvesting a mere 178,228 antlered deer. Texas hunters also harvest 265,104 antlerless deer with Georgia in a close second of 262,570 antlerless deer harvested.
Texas was as always the highest in deer harvested in the country.

How do they know how many were shot.....guesstimate? I'm guessing maybe those are just the ones taken to processors and the ones on public land? Not very accurate #s if that is the case. I never take one to the processor and I know lots of other folks don't either.

They've been making rules with inaccurate numbers for decades

I also doubt that these numbers are accurate, however I thought that the QDMA stats were interesting if only a "guesstimate" which is probably what they are.

I don't get the supposedly "down to the deer" exact numbers either. Simply no way to do that.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

The only exact numbers are those who are under MLD. The rest is guesstimate or from a random survey like they used to do.

Season is not over yet also. It is for us Yankees that don't have any of that hallowed Souther Ground! General Season ended in South Texas on Jan. 17th. MLD will continue till end of Feb. There are ranches all over the state under MLD that have not reported numbers yet.

I never take one to the processor and I know lots of other folks don't either. It's still a guesstimate but I'm sure they use some type of multiplier to account for deer that aren't taken to processors/reported. For example, if 100 deer are reported they'd multiply it by 1.75 (multiplier or ratio) to make the total 175 deer to try to account for all deer taken.

That's what I'm thinking. No way to really know how many deer a taken each year. How do they know how many were shot.....guesstimate?
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Definitely a guess. TPWD does pull records from licensed processors, but as noted above, what about those who perform their own processing.

Like anyone could even know that
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.
