Wasn't entirely sure where to put this post (Bow Hunting/Exotics/Disabled Hunters), so figured I would start here. I have had good results since going to my crossbow full-time to hunt deer/hog/turkey, and now I've been getting the itch to hunt exotics sometime in 2016. I would like to hunt on a "Bow Only" ranch, but while browsing around online for some ranches near San Antonio, I see that a couple of them mention they don't allow crossbows. Does anyone know if any of these ranches would make a crossbow exemption for a 90 percent Disabled Veteran? I used to shoot compound bows, but had to switch to a crossbow with a hand crank because my back just isn't capable of drawing back a compound bow anymore. I'm not looking to game the system or anything like that...I just would like the opportunity to bow hunt an exotic at one of these ranches with the equipment I am capable of using (I've gotten pretty proficient with my crossbow too, after using it for 4 years straight). Any suggestions?

If a ranch interests you, shoot them an email or give them a call. Worst they can do is say no dice, and if you explain your situation I would feel that they would be more likely to give you an ok. They likely have had "hunters" in the past trying to shoot beyond reasonable range or who could not shoot causing crossbows to get a bad rap.

All about the money. If they need the money, pretty sure they will let you slide. Been hunting with this guy for years. When crossbows became legal during archery season, he said no way he's going to allow a crossbow on his hunts. Well, this past season, he had 3 in camp that were using crossbows. All about the money!!!

Call David Lee of mountain home outfitters 8307392156, he is a veteran and has the keys to 200 ranches all over South Texas, he can find you what you need.
