It's that way for ANY ammo other than possibly rimfires. It is beyond crazy.

Im thinking about buying some online if they don't get more in soon. And even the online places are running low from what I have seen.

I have been stocking up on Gunbroker bulk ammo auctions
you have to sort through a bunch of BS to find some decent deals but there are some and they go very fast-I have 4 in work involving more than 2k .223 rounds
too many guns - too little time

just picked up 30 boxes of .40 from walmart in College Station. They have been getting it in pretty regularly, and they probably have about 100 boxes of 9mm.

The Wal Mart in Lancaster has several 250 round boxes of 40 S&W. Not sure why no one is buying it, but it has been in stock forever while they are always out of 9mm and 45 ACP.

I buy all my ammo online. I buy it out of state and avoid sales tax. Yes I pay for shipping but it's not that bad. I have purchased .223 in bulk and .45 in bulk for cheaper than Walmart or any other retail store. It usually takes about a week or two to be delivered. I love coming home and finding a brown box filled with 500 rounds of ammo. It's like Christmas.

What is the shipping cost like on something so heavy?

The shipping cost is about the same as a box of bullets or two. I split shipping with my brother. We split the shipping cost to keep it low. I had 500 rounds of .233 delivered for $29.00. I also had 500 rounds of .45 shipped for $19.95. On most websites you can see the shipping cost on your order before you make your finale purchase.

Here are the places I order ammo from: Aim surplus, Budsgunshop, Natchez and Brownells. Go to AR15.com and you can learn everything you have ever wanted to know about ammo and good prices.

Just got back from the Wal Mart in Rowlett and they had value pack Remingtons (50 rounds) for a little over $24! 55 grain FMJ!
Not sure how thats a value pack though considering that is more expensive per round than any other FMJ 223's I have found!

Cheaper than Dirt, who I used to love, is not getting my business anymore because of their price gouging. I know that all companies are raising their prices, but the current CTD prices are insane. The price of a box of 8mm Mauser loads from Sellier and Bellot has gone up from $14 in October to $30 now. They are no more than $22 at any other website. CTD is also selling 20 round boxes of Wolf 7.62x39 ammo for the low price of $18 (you can get that ammo for $6 everywhere else on the web). What is more insulting is that they say the list price for that ammo is $27. If their prices are that high, I guess that means there are people stupid enough to buy it. I have no problem with raising prices a little, but increasing them 100-300 percent is just absurd.

I've only been to CTD one time, and though I hate knocking places, there ammo seemed REALLY high. I guess if people are willing to pay it, why not? I just hate to hear a guy buying a gun from them, and the salesmen is like, well you gotta have ammo for it, and shows them the high dollar ammo you have to get for the pretty new gun you just bought.

I'm having family, friends and people that work for me check Walmart when they go shopping and pickup 9mm and .40 when it's available. Having a lot of people looking for ammo for me has paid off. I've been able to stock up on both calibers over the past few weeks.

I was at Cabela's the other day and as soon as the guy put the Fiocchi 223 on the shelf it was grabbed and thrown in the shopping baskets. Almost get run over by guys grabbing it. I ordered some from customer service while there to be delivered because they were out of the 60+ grain stuff I use. It is crazy out there!

We had a gun show here in San Angelo yesterday. A friend of mine bought a .380 auto at the show. We then tried to find some ammo at the local shops in town. There was no .380 to be found anywhere in town. One guy had some wolf .380 at the gun show and he had it marked $79.00's a box! It's crazy!
