I do like academy, but my gun won't cycle their monarch brand ammo. I would be frustrated also.

Another reason to reload. You can make high quality and accurate ammo for less than the cheapest factory rounds in that caliber.

I can suggest some start points. I shy away from giving specific loads because all weapons are different.
I need to know the rifle model, twist rate and barrel length.
My favorite .223 bullet is the 60gr Hornady V-max. It does great from skunks to hogs. It is heavy enough that Reloader 15 does great behind it which is the same powder I use in my .308s.

Is this the brass case ammo or the steel case ammo you had problems with!
I have never heard a bad thing about the brass case ammo!

Stick your cleaning rod with jag into your chamber. From where the rod just clears the action, measure 12 inches back and mark it with a tab of masking tape. The push your rod forward and count how many times the tape turns until it travels the 12 inches. Then you have your twist rate

No, that's the best way to get a twist rate. What is your rifle brand/type/cartridge?

is a 45gr JHP what you want to load for? Once you determine the twist rate I can recommend a few powder charges to start form and work your way up.

Well, with the 60gr V-Max I prefer Reloader 15 because I already have 15lbs of it for my .308s. It does well with this round. Generally in a barrel with a 1:7 to 1:12 twist. I would start at 24.0 and work up. The sweet spot in all of my ARs is around 25.5. Take your time and watch your primers for pressure signs.
The carbines will hold 3/4 MOA at 100yrds with the suppressor screwed on using this bullet/powder combo. About 1 MOA without it. Pretty good for 16" off the shelf carbines.
Give me a call tomorrow if you have any other questions.

In 12inches? Might want to double check this. It would = 1 in 24.
You need to measure the inches it take for 1 rev of jag.

correct, I re-read my post and was not very clear on what I meant to convey, thanks. So much is lost on the internet.

no ignorance at all... you wouldn't know if you were not looking for it. www.tigervalley.com It is just East of Waco on the way to Mexia (where Anna Nicole Smith grew up). TJ Pilling owns it and puts good classes and competitions on.

We've shot several boxes of the yellow and black box Monarch brass 55gr pointed soft point out of our DPMS AR's and have never had a bit of trouble. Reloaded several of these brass shells and they are still working fine. Just my .02 Tony
