My son is hoping to get enough Christmas money to buy his first 12-gauge shotgun. Other than the trusty Remington 870, looking at a few others.
Does anybody know how good Stoeger shotguns are? I think they are owned by Benelli? Particularly opinions about the Benelli Nova versus the Stoeger P-350.
Thanks!

The Stoegers are good guns. I'd look into the m3000.

I have an M2000 and a Benelli M2, the Benelli will eat anything I feed it while the Stoeger only has minor issues with super light target loads. Personally, I can't find where they hid the $700 difference. They both use the inertia drive and you will have an easier time finding aftermarket parts for the benelli. The difference in price between the 870 and the Nova is in my opinion a no brainer, I'd go with the benelli. YMMV

I'd go Franchi (made by benelli also)...really a perfect blend between stoeger and benelli, with a good price point. I have an I12 that has been through over 7000 shells without a hiccup. The first time I cleaned it, I waited way too long and found a ton of carbon, gunk, and even quite a few small dove feathers behind the bolt. It never stopped running and cycling like a brand new gun. The only thing that happened was the midbead fell out on a hunt. Contacted Franchi and told them about it (gun was 5 yrs old at this point) and they sent me 2 complete sight sets (midbead and front) and some free hats, all next day air because I mentioned I had a hunt that weekend. Super solid gun and even better CS.

Best 299.00 shot gun I've ever had.
I believe the Nova is around 100 more.
It ain't easy being me.

Benelli, Franchi Affinity ,Beretta A300 Outlander or the Rem 870 Wingmaster . All in close price of each other and darn good guns . I have the Franchi Affinity semi-auto in wood , fantastic 12-ga ! The Rem Wingmaster is available at Cabelas for $699.99 and is on my next wish list . That is a fantastic Pump ! I've handled that one at Cabelas , Great Gun ! Only reason I didn't buy it was I wanted a Semi-Auto so I bought the Franchi .

I love my Stoeger M3000 in MAX4 has killed lots of duck and dove. Never had a problem cycling 2 3/4 light dove loads either. I have the Stoeger M2000 as well for home defense shot gun. They run like a top.

Something else to consider is a Mossberg 930.

I have the benelli nova and absolutely love it. I have had it for a long time and use it for everything from dove/targets to turkey hunting with no issues at all. Two of my buddies I duck hunt with have the stoeger m3000 and have issues with cycling certain loads and both have had the Bolt handle fall out of the gun while hunting. I also just purchased the beretta a300. Just started using it this past dove season and have taken sone duck with it. So far I love the gun and haven't had any issues at all.
Hope this helps and your boy finds one he likes!

If you wind up getting one, get with me if you'd like some chokes. I have a set of 4 screw-ins in 12ga. Mod. usually comes with the shotgun, I have cyl., mod-cyl., full and xfull.
