Don't do it myself, prefer the ring around the anal cavity technique and pulling through the cavity with other entrails...How I was taught and not the bone to go through..

I have watch guys do this with the pelvic saw, or any small saws and just using the tip of knife and palm of hand. I don't do it at all. Why do it any way? Cut around the butt hole and pull it through when ya pull the guts out......this way no bone fragments and no meat cleaning.

There's a seam right down the middle, you can locate it on most deer because their is a bump or point on the underneath side. I put the point of the blade against the spine and just lever down through the seam from the front.

Battery-powered Saws-All with a fine-toothed blade does a pretty good job once all the entrails and anus are out of the way.

Back in the day most hunters carried a bowie type or straight blade sheath knife breaking a pelvis wasn't an issue, and now most carry a pocket carried lock blade, but they aren't the best to get the job done. I like the loppers myself, and my lock blade knife gets to keep it's edge.

Ive had plenty of poop and various other liquids on does come running out of the rearward facing openings that I would much rather be dealing with bone chips. Ever shoot a doe that was recently bread by a buck who maybe didn't quite hit the mark.. yeah ill take the bone chips.

I use loppers when in a hurry. Since I process my own deer, I'll use a knife and find the hip joint. Once you pop that out, you can use your knife to cut the rest of the meat off of the pelvis. On the lower leg, you can find a false joint around the knee that can also be it off using only a knife.

its easy to cut around the pelvis with a knife and break the tendon in that ball joint to the hams then split it apart. Then you dont get any bone pieces from a saw on it. No one does it that way?

I use a hatchet, when I do it (I don't always) and also use the hatchet to severe the head from the spine.

They are talking about cutting the inside pelvic bone - AKA "splitting the pelvis", not cutting around it on the outside.
