My wife drives a 2014 ford escape. We/she lost the key to it and we need another made.
Dealer wants $400 to make and program two new keys, pop a lock wanted 320 for 1 key. However the dealer says the car has to be at their lot to make the new key.
Anyone done anything similar? Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Yeah but they said I have to take the car down there wasn't really wanting to eat a 20 mile towing bill, but looks like I will have to.

Better than the $4,000 thousand to have Mercedes come out and make new keys. lady I know had her purse stolen with her car keys, both keys. Insurance covered the cost of the keys, but not the service to have the car reprogrammed. Crazy

Thanks. Bring copy of your insurance card and registration and try that. The Dealership is usually to show you own or process the car

They said they needed the car to program it. I will specifically ask if I need to bring the car there, but he did say I would need to tow it I believe. Next step is to see if I can figure out how to start it without a key... im not a criminal so I doubt that will get me far.

If that was your only key, you are pretty much stuck with the dealer. If you had one working key, you don't need the dealer. We lost one for our Ford truck a while back. I balked at the dealer charge. Ordered a replacement off eBay and reprogrammed it myself. It's all over the internet how to do it. Google

Appreciated it TX. We have zero keys for it.
Other lock smiths can do it, but the ones I have found that will cost more than the dealer. Got a couple places to call thanks for the help fellas.

I have lost sleep looking for keys to my wife's new Explo - same system as the Excape. I feel for you. You may want to dump her purse out. Seriously. After a new key was bought, LATER THAT DAY I was in the back of the house and heard an excited, "Well there it is!"
I was very quiet for a very long time that night.

I called no less than 4 dealerships. All of them said they would require me to have the car towed to them.
Called the salesman we have dealt with in the past. He said there is a metal chip in the owners manual and if I brought it to him they could make a key that would start the car and then I could drive it to them to have the rest of the programming done.
Hope it all goes according to plan. If not ford has roadside service available for the car since it has less than 60K miles on it and I should be able to get it towed for free.
We have learned a lesson, you don't let your 14 month old play with your keys.

bottom line - have it towed and have a spare key made in addition to any others you may need (they'll have to make two to program when you have no keys to go off of) and put it away for just such an emergency.

. . . . Next step is to see if I can figure out how to start it without a key... im not a criminal so I doubt that will get me far. if you try to hotwire a P.A.T.S. equipped vehicle (which is what yours is) and you make it go into anti-theft mode, $400.00 will seem like a drop in the bucket compared to the bill you'd be facing. don't do it. tow it there and pay for the proper keys.

Probably has to be hooked up to their computer system in order to program multiple modules for the vehicle to learn the new transmitters.

I don't know what the salesman was thinking that told us about the chip there was no such thing and the parts/service guys at the dealer the sales guy worked for said they have no idea what he is talking about that there is and never has been such a thing. I towed it to dealer they are making keys now. I will be happy to have two vehicles again. Its a hassle and I thought this would have taught my wife not to let the 14 month old (probably the culprit responsible for the missing key) play with the car keys... well as I was buckling him in the car seat last night I notice he is playing with something... you guessed it the other car keys, it was almost WWF smackdown time, but I bit my lip took them away and said didn't we learn a lesson about doing this? Apparently WE didn't.

oh well. at least you got it handled and can put it behind you. actually, the 400 isn't out of line. 100 each for the keys and 200 labor. that's less labor than the 'smith was charging you for a single key. now you have spares which you need to have anyway. if you were out in the sticks, it really would have been a mess.

once you have the key it's $69 for a new one at ace hardware. Bet with some shopping you could find it cheaper. To avoid a tow bill you better believe I'd find a way to get it up on that trailer. but I'm cheap like that. Hope you get it worked out!

Apparently WE didn't. Locksmith here. If you have 2 keys, you can program the keys you found back in. If not, a 'smith can do it for $50 or so. What's your 20? ETA: Somebody wanted $400? Hayl, I only get $200-250 in a general area around here.

I have a 2014 F-250 that has only one key. How do I get a second key and does it have to be programmed? Thanks!

If you only have the one key, you will need a locksmith or the dealer to make a second working key. There is a good auto locksmith in New Braunfels, Key Pro if I remember correctly, he is an auto key wizard. Fords can on board program a new key IF you have 2 working keys, it saves the programming fee. Hope this helps.

I was told if you had one working key you could get a new key cut at walmart and programed for less than $60.
I don't know that for sure because I lost both of my keys. A coworker with a similar year model ford said he cot a second one at walmart but they could only do it if you still had one of the other working keys.

Thanks for reminding me about Key Pro. As it turns out I had an old business card of his from some time ago. Being as I have the one key, he can make a duplicate that opens doors and starts the vehicle $59. or he can make a key and a remote to go with it ( 2 separate pieces) for $100. or he can make a key with remote just like the one from ford for $150. Really glad you mentioned this guy.
