Looking at getting into Comp 22 pistol shooting. Nothing too big just local club type stuff. Any recommendations of gun type, upgrades, mods would be greatly appreciated.

No idea about competitions, but I think alot of those guys shoot ruger mark3 guns. Tons of upgrades and aftermarket parts out there.

There is a forum just for rimfire, I wanna say it's rimfire central??
From what I've seen, everything you could ever wanna learn about rimfire, you can find on that site. It's where I look when I'm upgrading my 10/22.

My grandad had a gorgeous S&W 41, which my grandmother sold after he died without asking if I wanted it.

CZ 455 varmint and done end of story They let you use that in pistol competition? I'm no competitor but I have a MKIII (with MKII guts) 22/45 I decked out myself and it would be a great comp22 platform IMO.
Pass the gravy.

The 2 I would be looking for as a comp gun are the Sig Hammerli or X-Esse. The Sig Hammerli is the most accurate 22 pistol in my hands that I have tried with one inch groups at 50 yards being the best I did when shooting it a good bit. Find one of those or the X-Esse which replaced it and go have fun. Might just compete very strongly.

What kind of competition are you wanting to do?

I have a Mark 1, wife has MarkIII. My trigger is EASILY better than hers. All stock on both but still. Find and old Mark 1 and trick it up. Lights out. Always my go to at deer lease when ego shoot out occurs.

I've had a number of Mark Is and Mark IIs. My current Mark II has been with me for 26 years (holy ****! Where'd half a lifetime GO??) and is still one of my favorite handguns. I think it will shoot a lot better than I can manage.
There are some things you can do to the stock trigger on a Mark II that will improve is greatly. I suspect some of it is applicable to the III but I don't really know. I'd shop for a Mark II over a Mark III anyway.

What you do to fix a MKIII is put MKII guts in it. That gets rid of the magazine safety that is part of the trigger problem. I used the full Volquartsen kit for a MKII plus one hammer bushing. I sold off the extended bolt release (doesn't fit the 22/45 style) and ended up with a major improvement over stock....plus the trigger is adjustable for take up and pull weight. Add that to a good job of removing all the Ruger grease and polish/re-oil, you have a winner. Looks like the VOLQUARTSEN ACCURIZING KIT for the MKII automatically comes with the hammer bushing since so many people were doing what I did.
Pass the gravy.
