The new deer/nilgai lease has kept me busy this year. Finally got the dog out for a quick morning hunt. Found 2 coveys at first spot then 2 more at my other spot. Dropped 2 per covey. 4yo dog is doing great. My only complaint is that she isnt steady to shot, only to flush. Hard to train that without a partner. But, hey she retrieved all birds to hand from some thick stuff.

Get a shock collar and train her for your command when your not hunting . Good looking dog tho . Back when I was in HS many years ago my best friend had a GSH Pointer male and he was as stubborn as they come but my friend had no idea how to train him but he was a good ole dog and we did a lot of searching in the fields and wooded areas . Dogs name was Rattler .

I've seen maybe two dogs in my 15 years with NSTRA that were steady to wing and shot. You simply can't keep them that way if you chose to shoot. It's a different story with a shooter or a blank.

I typed that she is steady to flush, but meant steady to wing. Maybe its the same thing. I dont do competitions so am not familiar with all the terms. Wish there were some competition in the RGV though. She doesnt move until the birds fly. I rarely lose a bird since I force fetched her. But I think being steady to shot she could mark the falling bird better from a covey. With singles it doesnt matter.

She would probably do great in NSTRA. Look up their schedule. There's one soon in Floresville.
