What are your opinions? Want to get something to shoot 500yds or so and to learn how to adjust windage and elevation with. I'm new to long range.
I tried my hand at semi custom builds on a few rifles back in the day and it's not my thing. I just want to buy something ready to go.
What should I look at?

"The best" of anything will tend to be quite expensive.
I'd ask at one of the forums dedicated to long-range shooting.
Kind regards, charlesb

This should be interesting. A $250 Academy special with scope will let you ring steel at 500 yards, so will a $10,000 factory rifle without a scope.

The new Ruger Precision in 6.5 if you can find it at the right price. Currently the 6.5's are still in stupid money land since dealer on them is around $900~. Sendero's used to be a good choice but prices are up there these days. Remington makes a HB LR rifle in decent stock for $600-$700~ I picked up a bunch of them and parted out a while back in the $600 range. I got $225/stock which put me in the $375 range pre heavy barreled action. Add a $700 AICS stock to that and your shittin pure gold. Remington Long Range Rifle I started my FIL in LR shooting. I bought him a Remington SPS Tactical. Traded around and got him an HS stock for next to nothing. Put a MK4 on it and 20MOA Badger rail. Wasn't cheap by the time it was said and done but was done cheap enough since we bought everything except the rifle used off the used section of snipers hide. I.E. Used MK4 scopes in the $700-$1000 range for scopes that go for $850-$1500.

If I were on a budget I would pop up the Remington LR rifle, decent 20MOA mount and watch midway for the Vortex scopes to go on sale for hundreds off.
You get what you pay for as always but Remingtons are rock solid shooters and the Vortex scopes I have picked up lately have actually been pretty decent for the money.

I'd say under $2000 for the rifle. How's the 700 AAC or the Savage 110 fcp hs?

$2000 and under you can scoop up a used GAP stick.
Factory, look at the SPS tactical or Savage equal. The dealer I use here a lot has a savage that is like the SPS but has DBM and threaded muzzle. Its less than the SPS and has a rebate. That leaves room for optics, ammo, and good bipod.

Is go with a Savage model 10 $550 and find a good used scope. I think there is a good Vortex forsale on here for not too much. Under $1000 and you will be reliably hitting steel at 500.

Reason I said under 2k is I don't know what's out there. I'm all about spending less.

If 2k also includes glass you may want to take a look at the Remington 700 5R in 308

Tikka CTR or Reminton 5r 20" all day 5R for a grand, timney trigger, vortex glass. Right at $2k for a decent setup that'll go out to a grand if loaded properly.

With a $2k budget for rifle only gives lots of options. Tikka donor rifle $550 Manners T-4, or MCS-EH1 if weight reduction is important $550 New barrel (optional) $350 Gunsmith to thread each end and chamber $350
TOTAL $1800
Can add a brake for $50-$150 Can add bottom metal for $200
I've got 3 rifles that were put together exactly this way.

For 2k, I would go the custom route too. You can get there for $1500 using 700 action, HS stock, factory bottom metal and trigger.

I have a 308 savage model 10 fcp. With vortex optics that has proven itself to 800 on Fireman's range. Absolutely nothing wrong with that combo. Might even sell for right price.
