Desert Hunting owns a piece of land down that way. He'd know.

The hunting is great down there if you have at least a few sections to hunt on.

I started a new lease down there this year and was on a place 1 or 2 miles south of where I am now for one year that borders Desert Hunting's ranch. You definitely need a large acreage to make it worthwhile.
Mule deer/Whitetail crossover country. Javelina, predators and we're seeing a lot of blue quail at least this year.

More specific, what direction of Sanderson?
You go certain ways and it's mulie only.

What is large in your opinion Well SHE said... But seriously folks, it depends on how it's been managed. The first place I was on was run "fast and loose" with 20, that's twenty hunters on it. (9000 acres.) The occasional decent WT buck was shot, but I didn't see anything different than the hill country. And, although I was able to hunt muleys, a lot of the other hunters were out to shoot anything with a fork horn, so I didn't see a thing worth shooting. If you've never hunted muleys, you might change your mind about not wanting to hunt them. One of the guys in my current group started off saying he wasn't that interested in muleys, then he saw some. Now he's leading the charge in how to increase our quota. If it's been managed, or can be managed, you will see better than hill country WT bucks. I live and have a small place in the hill country. I enjoy going out to the Chihuahuan desert, not just for the deer.

What is large in your opinion At least 10k acres is what I'd want
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

It's not cheap like it used to be. If you are by a decent sized ranch you will have some decent deer, if you are by a bunch of small 100-300ac tracts you will see does and a few bucks; but the odds def go down. We had 696 acres in Dryden and the first few years we had real good bucks. Then the neighbor got killed and his place sold. Hunting sucked after that and we sold the place.

I would not buy southwest or south of Sanderson. To many subdivisions in that area. If I were you I would go look at what is for sale. You might be surprised at what you get for you money.

I've hunted a large place, within view of Sanderson. Whitetail & mule deer, elk, and black bear.
