Seems to me they could at least raffle, or auction off special permits for these bears? A complete waste IMO to just go out and kill them and no one gets any byproduct. SMH Bet hunters would line up for a shot at a Grizzly in the lower 48. Article: http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2015/11/02...15/?intcmp=hpff

Concur but that's another Cecil in the making. Why people think it's cool to humanize apex predators I have no idea. But they have no problem ruining human lives over it that's for sure.
They really need to delist them

I'm surprised they are admitting to it. I know that a lot more wolves are killed every year then the official count, but because of all the negative publicity around killing wolves, it's kept quiet.
Back in CA, where I'm from, I know several Game Wardens who were involved in some very public helicopter captures and so called sterilizing of does in some parks where the deer numbers where out of control. The helicopter thing was a total waste of money since they could only catch a few does and the procedure was too time consuming to get a lot of them done. So during the night, after all the publicity died down, they went in and killed hundreds of deer to get the population down to where it needed to be. No public input, and very few people even know it was done. The deer bodies where hauled off and buried in an off limits area of another park. The helicopter operation, which cost close to a million dollars is giving public credit for managing deer numbers in the humane way.
I honestly figured that's what was happening with the predators in Yellowstone and other parks through the country.

I don't know if anyone would "Cecil" these grizzlies, I think it would be a different perspective if they where included in a draw, or raffle system. These are apparently "problem" bears and IMO, someone that would appreciate harvesting the animal would be best served. Plus the park could earn some income verses paying rangers hourly to hunt them down.
Just seems there could be a much better management plan. I'd love to have a grizz hide and a few hunt photos and a hunt less that 3k miles away!

Like to "chute" me a wolf too Guess I'd be a poor poster boy for the groups you're talking about. Best those naysayers would have a different tune if it was their azz or livestock getting hit by a big grizzly. A lot of extreme power wrapped in that fur... But they are cute when they are little

Naa, don't think you could take a grizz in an arm wrestling comp But I'd sure offer you the same deal for a bear tag as I did a speed goat hunt, a solid cash payment of $5 . Keep that in mind if things get tough Jon............

They could easily do a raffle and auction for them. I'm not sure how much bad press it would get considering the bison slaughters that really go unnoticed.

There are so many "problem" animals killed every year that could be hunted and $ raised from the hunts it would amaze us if we only knew the real truth. The "wildlife managers" often are the beat at SSS, only sometimes it gets out.

Damn str8, even if they where a cheap 2k, that is nearly 50k, not considering what would go into a few mom and pop places. I'm sure they could find a place to spend the money. Imagine if they went for 5-10k each!

The USFWS is a huge boondoggle. It's criminal that the fed owns one third of our land mass and puts those yahoos in charge.

I remember several years back up in the Teton outside Jackson Hole seeing some ranchers that had bumper stickers on their trucks about wolves. Don't remember what they said exactly but they made the point they weren't happy with not being able to kill them I think one of them said wolves, government sponsored terrorism. Can't remember the others.

A grizzly hunt would be fine, even from a PR standpoint. There are wolf seasons now in WY, MT, ID. Life goes on.

Interesting trivia: my AZ sheep guide Larry Altimus killed the last legal grizzly taken in the lower 48 in 1992. They quietly opened a monthlong spring season and he took a huge boar on the last day of the season that year. He killed him with an old Winchester .270.

Ooops I was off a year. Hearing about that hunt around the campfire was amazing. Tracked it in the snow many miles and shot it at 40 yards.
