Is anyone running these? Or would it be better to stay with the 140's I am hoping to try her out this weekend on some pigs and maybe a doe.

I have no personal knowledge of how well the AMAX does on pigs, since I shoot Nosler BTs. And I don't need 140 grains to get the job done. I used 120s for a while and then went to 100s for pigs, deer, and coyotes.

Depends on range. Inside 400ish I don't think 140 will give that much benefit.
Also amax is not listed as a hunting bullet. Many people use them to, but from a design stance they were not intended for hunting.

I suppose I should mention that the reason I went to 100 gr BTs was to get 3000 fps MV. With a short barrel I couldn't get there with the 120's. Otherwise I'd have stayed with the 120 grainers. And...yes, I know that adjustments can be made with turrets (which I have), but I've hunted with a 270 for decades and want to stay with that same trajectory and make shots without too much thought. For me, it's the KISS principle. There have been times I've hunted and shots I've made when time was the one thing I didn't have much of.
All that said, the 120s have been slightly more effective on deer and pigs than the 100s have, though the 100s have been enough. I'd expect the 140s to be more effective than the 120s. In my 50+ years of hunting I have decided that bigger bullets have bigger down range effectiveness. I just personally don't need more down range effectiveness with small central Texas deer and pigs of less than 200 pounds (usually). If I had evil intent toward an Elk, I'd use the 140's.

140 A-max going 2750+ has killed deer and hogs just fine for me.

Why do you guys use a Target bullet for hunting? I've never understood why guys do that when there are plenty of Hunting bullets available for the 6.5mm guns.
They may kill an animal, but they can also just pass through or come apart on impact.

Because we can place it where we want it, as far out as we want it. And pretty much everyone here touts shot placement as the most important thing for anyone of us to do. Plus they have worked every time. Just because it isn't labeled as a hunting bullet doesn't mean it can't be used as such. Dead bodies prove more than words on a label. I am not going to use one on an elk, but it has worked fine on whitetail, hogs, and coyotes. Same load a I practice and compete with is what I use on those animals.

I'm a firm believer in shot placement, and I can place any bullet I load for easily at any type of hunting range it's designed to work at. I shoot the Berger Hunting VLD's and Sierra Gameking's for most of my hunting needs in almost every caliber I shoot, and they are as accurate as most Match bullets at long range. I've seen too many animals that are wounded by getting shot with the wrong type of bullet. Hell,I kill more animals every year with the front bumper of my 18 wheeler than I ever shoot, and it has the B.C. of a house. I'm not trying to start a fight,I just don't think Match bullets make dependable hunting ammo for game animals.

This discussion is nothing new, it has been happening for many years. The only way to get through it is to live and let live. Because there are plenty of peole that will also atest to the effectiveness of the A-max on animals. And there are plenty of people that will stand beside you judging those of us that use a bullet for something other than it's "intended use".

Normally I shoot a 140 AMAX in my Creed.
However, last year I did shoot a medium-size panhandle buck with a 120 AMAX out of my Creed. The range was 200 yards, and the MV was right at 3000 fps. The shot was quartering coming to me. The bullet went in between the shoulder and the the crease of the neck, and exited through the second rib from the back on the opposite side. He ran about 30 yards flat out, and piled up. Good expansion and penetration, I was very impressed with it actually. I wouldn't be afraid of using it one bit.
