But it sure has been nice this year seeing and hearing all the Quail. When I first bought the ranch back in 98, I would see so many Quail on the ranch I would almost have to kick them out of the way. Went a couple of years without hearing any. I know of at least 5 coveys in a couple of my bigger Dove fields. No telling what I have on the rest of the ranch. Not going to allow them to be hunted or killed. Going to give them a chance and see what they'll do over the next year or two.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

There numbers will ebb and flow no matter how you protect them. The birds you see now will be dead in 24 months from lots of different sources. Hunting plays little to no effect in what you will see in 2-3 years.

But still, think I'll just leave them be for a while. 3 of the best things in nature to hear are, Quail calling, Turkey gobble and Elk bugle.

I still think that the hen you kill on the last day of the season, just might could have raised a successful clutch

I think I would rather eat them than the neighborhood coyote.
