I got 9 dove yesterday on my 1st dove hunt. It was slow...didn't see as many as expected. But sure was fun and learned a lot. We started around 6pm. Going again Sunday!

Good job. My first dove hunt was in '68 or '69 and I think I might have got 9 all season.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

That ain't to slow buddy. I hunted a total of 6 hours yesterday and got 7. Asked game warden yesterday if people around the area were doing any good and he told Me the biggest bag checked was 8, so it was a bit slow down this way, think these pop up thunderstorms played a big part. Anyways congrats on a productive first hunt

Starting at 6pm and killing 9 birds is far from slow my friend Yeppers, that is a good hunt. I guess I should've said there was a lot of wait time. I'm pleased with the results, and thankful. Being my first dove hunt, I guess I envisioned flocks of birds. I even missed a bunch. Great time. Can't wait to go again.

What area were you hunting. NE San Antonio has had lots of birds hanging around.

I used the modified choke. I'm going again Sunday and was thinking about trying an IC to see if there's a difference. If I'm not mistaken an IC holds together longer, right? Michael- I was in far west SA.

Michael- I was in far west SA. Chokes from tightest to widest. Full - Modified - Improved - Skeet . There are other modifications but these are the basic ones. Improved or skeet is all you normally need unless you are shooting at high flyers. I don't know many that use full choke any more on doves.

If it is mainly whitewings in the area you might want to try and get out there around 3:30, they tend to fly a little earlier than mourning dove in my experience.

Gonna try it on Sunday.

I prefer mod for whitewings because they are bigger and fly higher generally. You may find that you wound more birds with the IC. When shooting mourning dove I use IC.

Side note 9 birds with a lot of misses in 1.5 hrs is very good. Also, if thats slow don't take up fishing
