I sat in my stand this weekend hunting hogs and noticed when one hog comes in they don't make any sound. So I just happened to get lucky and flip the scope on to see one under the feeder. It would be nice if I had a way of detecting one there.
Now I am not looking for a flood light approach. Something with a motion sensor that has a light up the side of the feeder as an alert something is there. Red/green LED. I don't want to spook the game just let me know they are there. Hopefully I am making sense.
Anyone have something like this or know of something I can DIY? Feeder runs on a 6 volt battery..

So your wanting a motion sensor that will light a small light mounted possibly on top of your feeder so you can see it and the hogs can't? Kind of an alert signal

Kind of an alert signal This is exactly what I am looking for. I don't want it lighting up the ground for the animals. Don't want them to even know there is something on watching them..

Pigs just don't care about the Kill Light I posted. It senses them, and if after dusk, it will come on very dimly and slowly brighten until it's quite bright. It's the sudden appearance of a shadow (STRANGER DANGER! RUN!) that spooks them. It will serve a dual purpose in your case, notification and illumination.

brucet / Cast,
I've seen all those, which is great . I don't want them to know, I know they are there. When they here the gun go off they will... Make sense what I am looking for.

sure, but no alarm, just a light. I could stick it up high on the feeder pointed at my stand to let me know. something bright enough I can see it 80 yards away...

bornforit the kill light is a good product and I have killed plenty hogs from under it and I just put it on and get in the stand mine don't stay on all the time only when I'm there.
Sorry to hijack this thread but does anybody have a link to an actuall scientific study on pigs and what light waves they can and can't see? I've killed 100s and I'm still not sure about wether they just don't care about the light or can't see it well.

I put a switch in to enable/disable the speaker in the receiver (audible alarm). In the stand, audio alarm Disabled (lights flash). Sleeping inside , audio alarm Enabled (wakes me up to put the smack down on varmints/ hogs).

cmc - Im with you on it working, if I didnt have a night vision I would be all over it. I just don't want the light shining on the subject blurring the image or blinding me through the scope. Just have a different scenario, I feel like.
old oak - few questions. This might be what I am looking for. On the light end, I assume I can cover it up so its not so bright at night, red tape or something? I assume there is a power switch to turn off the light end when its time to get down to business. and do you have a picture of the switch hooked up???
thanks

they have basically the same thing at harbor freight on gilmer road. i think they call it a driveway alarm. i have them here at the house for extra security, and at the farm in the house and near some of my setups. like o.o.2000 said, just turn off the audible alarm when in the stand. something like $13.00-14.00

ok so my last question is on the range is it just a beam for detection or is it similar to the sensor on game cameras... want to make sure it picks up the hog. a beam would make me mount it pretty low.
I knew I couldn't be the only one with this need.

Can't you just use a red glow game camera, set it on video for say a 10 sec. Video.

All my game cameras are no glow. Otherwise that might be an alternative. Good thinking though.

I knew I couldn't be the only one with this need. It has a 'passive infrared motion sensor' - similar as a game cam (actually more like the sensor on a motion light). I don't have pics of the switch inside - when dissambled you can easily see the wires going to the speaker; just splice a small toggle switch in (or two wires hanging outside the unit if you are a cheapie - twist together for audio). The 'lights' are just a few red leds (not like a flashlight); can cover with anything if necessary. Also the one I have uses 3 c batteries in the receiver; lasts a long time; motion sensor uses a 9v battery; lasts a long time too. The one on ebay with 9v battery in sensor is supposed to be way better than the 'newer' ones at harbor freight that use aaa batteries; just read the reviews p2 and p3 at harbor freight!!

I use the green feeder light from moultrie. If you have a moultrie it replaces the nut at the bottom if you don't you can zip tie it on.
