Hello friends!
Our Weimaraner pasted away this Summer after 10 year of being a wonderful dog. Great with the family and great in the field. With that said we are beginning to look for another pup to add to our family. We have 3 kiddos under 6 and have decide to get at Brittany. We are in Austin TX and have talked with a breeder in Liberty Hill that has a litter that should be ready around Christmas, but I thought I would check with you guys to see if y'all know of anyone.
Anyone know of a great breeder in Texas (preferably Austin area)? Anyone have advice on adding a Brittany to the family? She/he will be primarily a family put but also a hunting companion. Mostly just annual dove hunting along with occasionally quail and waterfowl.
Thanks!

Brittanys are excellent dogs! Be sure to get from a reputable breeder. Any breeder you contact, ask them if they OFA certify their breeding stock to be free of hip dysplasia. Britts are relatively healthy as a whole, but hip dysplasia, epilepsy and some eye issues pop up. A reputable breeder will do minimum of OFA hip and CERF/OFA eye tests. For hips, any breeder that claims they don't xray because none of their dogs are lame - run far away from! Also be sure they know their lines and will be honest about issues such as epilepsy. Since there's no test for epilepsy, you have to rely on the breeders knowledge of their dogs lineage.
A breeder who also participates in events is a good sign that they're willing to put their dogs up against others and see how they compare as well as see what they may need to improve in their breeding program.
I'm also going to PM you. I have Britts and am always happy to talk Britt and welcome new people to the breed!

Kinda far from Austin, but worth the drive. I have two from him that are 10 now and one that is 6 and one that is 12. And had pups out of the two 10 yr olds that are 4 now. All very healthy. (one of my 10 yr olds is showing some heart problems and is retired but all the others hunt) www.flyingoranch.com
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.
