I been calling on some cheaper calls (cheap Echo and cheap buck Gardner) and am looking to get something a little nicer for myself. Something easy to call with, as I have not mastered the skill yet. I'd love to hear any suggestions. Thank you

Go with a good acrylic single Reed such as echo or Rnt! There's lots of good call makers out there. Blow as many as u can an pick one that seems to fit u! I would say single Reed cause if u can blow a single Reed then u can run a double Reed! Just my opinion! I run the rnt Short Barrel and love it!

I would recommend that you stick with the cheap calls until you feel you have mastered the skill. If you aren't great with a call yet, you aren't going to get any benefit out of a nicer call.

I'd love to hear any suggestions. Thank you I wouldn't drop any big mponey until you master the skill of duck calling. There are some awesome cheaper calls out there. Faulks makes one of the best IMHO. Others will scoff but I can't tell you the birds that have died while being called with a Faulks. It is a $20 call and is soft and sweet. Too much and it will lock up on you. I make my own calls but still love taking my old Faulks. I have had that call as long as I can remember. Marketeers have taken the call industry way beyond what it should be. Good for them just not for me. I think the call craze is similar to the last two Presidential elections. Lots of flare, glamour and promises with no real return for the amount of money spent. In the end people realize that a $20 call can be just as productive as a $120 call. The ones that can't admit that are the ones who just don't want to or have the capabilities as of yet. Same thing with opening weekend of deer season. 7.3 power stroke with a lift, Texas Trophy Hunter sticker in the rear window, a A Yetti cooler in the back ect. It is all about trends and people fitting in with a group of people. They have to buy that product or else be considered less than "In the know". Thats what we hunters do for each other up until the fat guy stands up and says the King is naked. The entire crowd will be set back and then people will slowly start to agree with the fat guy. Eventually they won't be trendy either

I have to agree with Wal1809. One of the best calls out there is the Faulks.

Here we go with the faulks bs again Please have more ammunition than "Faulks is BS". I got to give you one part of a win though, you can keep the migratory section lively. You may not know shat from Shinola shoe shine about duck hunting/calling but you at least keep it lively around here.

Once you master that faulks step up to a mallard tone or yentzen. They are all great at making flat toned one note low quacks that the more distinguished (old) crowd seems to love.

Telling someone to buy a faulks duck call is like recommending someone buy a pair of Durango boots. Sure, old men don't mind wearing them with their high water jeans, but the quality stinks and they're kind of silly

Once you master that faulks step up to a mallard tone or yentzen. They are all great at making flat toned one note low quacks that the more distinguished (old) crowd seems to love. The Old crowd guys don't get caught up in the "I have to have this to kill mallards" marketing. I mean can't you see that? My brother is on an island in the middle of the Yangtze river in China doing consulting work for Dow, right now. He has told me a dozen times to send him the drawings to one of my calls and he would have them purchase the acrylic, make the call in lots of 5000 and ship them for X number of dollars. To my door it would be about $15 a call. All I would have to do is cut the insert and tune the call. The marketing company told me they researched the business and were ready to go. It was just write a check and we can have your call advertised as a world champion call in no time. They said with our google rating we can get you on front page, number one of every google search in the world. They also said they researched the sales trends. Meaning they said we need to hire/lease/whatever to kill X number of mallards on film. With that we would be making youtube videos ect, all attached to my website. The next plan was to throw a tremendous amount of money hiring the next up and coming callers to travel the circuit and win contests so we could stamp world champ on the packages. It is all a freakin lie and you bite off on it and will actually defend it without knowing any portion of the business. In advertising you would be considered a minion. The mud motor companies have their minions and so on. It seems nowadays if you wish to be successful in a retail product you must create a hype, gather your minions and let them do the work for you. Go on mud motor talk forum and see if the Gator Tail minions don't attack you like an angry pack of dogs on a three legged cat, just for having a difference of opinion. The minion plan works flawlessly in that situation. Companies that choose not to go or don't know how to go that route are swallowed up in the minion machine. If you choose to perpetuate that lie then by all means do so. I choose to speak the truth and the truth is Faulks make a great $20 call. RNT makes a great $120. Both will kill birds in the hands of a person that can use the call. RNT spemds $1000s upoin $1000s searching for the best callers in the world. They dominate the competitions by having a good quality product and the best callers in the world. It is a good business plan and it obviously works. The truth it is not the only way to kill birds.

No Sir, no need for a hug although I am glad you have embraced the recent Supreme Court Rulings. Are you going add something to the conversation other than a curt comment or are you going to remain at the rank of a snippet minion?

Kwakman makes a 50 dollar acrylic call. It is a 2 reed and it sounds great.
It is my favorite call not only because it sounds great but for only 50 bucks you can't go wrong.

If it isn't RNT and you paid $120 dollars for it, you will not fit in the crowd. You can't possily kill ducks with a $50 call. What the he!! were you thinking? Go get a Yetti, a RNT call, a Powerstroke Ford truck, Oakley sunglasses and whatever the masses are using. After purchasing all that you can join in the discussion. Until then we the company minions who have zero stakes in the product will hurl curt one liner insults at you until you comply.

Field Proven makes the best sounding poly calls that I know of. The Double Shot would be a good place to start for $30. IMO the Faulks does sound good for a cheap call, but it is very limited in what it can do.
