Newulmboy, I loved that place. I know your property as I have guided on the baker a few times. Congrats on that place you got I am truly jealous. I saw a huge 21-22 in blackbuck last year on your fenceline. I like all the old stories and the history of the Taylor. I'll let you know next time we come up and see if your around. Man I'm so jealous of that place you got.

Thanks Darrack. I was questioning myself for buying it not too long ago, since its only a place for hunting and the long distance to get there. But, it really is a great place. I bought at the right time too, the price of land that way is really starting to shoot up. We usually go once a month to check on everything, but during deer season, we are there every weekend.

Darrack:

I'm right down the road from you off of CR230 too. We've had our place for over 35 years there in the old Diamond Ranch. You are right, for many years axis hunting was very good. We've been fortunate to kill dozens over the year. We would see them every weekend. What happened a couple of years ago is that certain landowners trapped them and sold them off. Ask the landowner (I think you inferred you are a guest or leasing?) about this as it was reported extensively in our HOA newsletter. Last year we passed a new HOA rule that banned the practice. So the herd should rebuild. We only shot one axis doe last year. I'm not saying this is the only problem with the axis population off of CR 230 but it is a contributing factor for sure. I miss the good old days out there with tons of exotics. Good luck.

Seals, i am really glad you got on here. I would love to talk more about the area and maybe the neighbors if you know them. I am going to be out there Aug. 14,15,16,17 if you are available. We are on the Ramirez Ranch you can just see the fence on the east side of the road about 3 miles down. If you need any help with anything that weekend we are going down there for a work weekend so we will have all our stuff in case you need any help with anything.

We are in the Hill Country about ten miles outside of Fredericksburg. A high volume of Axis in the area and tend to stay close to the Perdernales across the road from our land. Frequently they will come across our place to graze. What I have learned is that you can not pattern Axis. I have gone months with seeing very little movement as well as months with frequent activity. The exotics are much more cautious than whitetail. It is extremely rare to see them near a feeder. We refer to them as Ghosts.
