I have a .243 Win that I want to rebarrel. I would like a 1:8 or 1:7 twist rate so I can shoot heavier bullets like the 105 Amax or 115 Berger VLD.
I have looked at the 6mm creedmoor but it looks like the velocities are very similar. I already reload for .243, have all the dies and brass, is t worth changing to another cartridge like the 6mm CM or .243 Ackley Improved?

No...if you have 243 stuff, there is not a thing wrong with moving to something else but I'd either do another straight 243 or a 6slr (super long range) because it uses your brass you just have to size it, load and shoot...no fireforming...I have one and I've been very impressed with the velocity in a 22" and accuracy with the 105 hybrid. Basically the slr fixes what's wrong with the 243...neck length and shoulder angle.
A 1:8 is more than fine if you run them up to the speeds you should be running them (3025-3100). I'm actually running 1:8.5's in my bench rigs shooting the same bullets and they are fully capable of winning.
FWIW - there is no advantage of running a 115 anymore since Berger released the 105 hybrid and Sierra started pointing their 107's.

The only downside to running 2 guns of the same caliber is unless the chamber is cut the same the they won't size the same. I just got a 6mm Creedmoor and I'm pretty happy. I just grabbed a general load to start with of 42gr of H4350 with a 105gr Hybrid it gave me 3034fps with a 22" barrel. I shot a quick 3 shot group at 400yd then fallowed by these two 5 shot groups at 1000yd. Now keep in mind my barrel has a mere 50rds down it plus no tweaking of the load so I have a bit of work to do so I can lower the es.

I tend toward the .240 Wby in 6mm for deer on up game,,,6mm/250 on less than deer size/ wgt. game

I have had good luck with the .243 Winchester. - It does what I am looking for in a small caliber whitetail/varmint cartridge, and the selection of rifles is very good.
For heavier game, I'd be looking at a heavier caliber. There are 6mm cartridges with more grunt than the 243, but to be honest I'd rather go to a 270 or a 30 caliber if I was hunting something larger.
Kind regards, charlesb

Just because I don't know, what would a 223 necked up to 6mm be? Does that round exist? Or am I brain farting?

Found it. 6x45. Anyone play with one? I currently have two one AR and a Cooper in 6x45mm. Neat round and will handle up to deer sized critters with no recoil. Not too bad for predators either. Here is the AR.....
