X-Sight 3-12X video. Taken July 11 @ 168 yards. Property line is about 5 yards left. Somehow, he made it across the property line and I don't have permission to cross it. One That Got Away

Bummer....looks like first shot was low and just stunned the pig. Second shot looked good. Ive seen them make it 200 yds with broken shoulders and no lungs. Its dead somewhere!

I shot one through both jaw bones and he still made it 10 yards to the creek. I found him the next day with one side of his face blown completely out. Somehow he made it 30 yards down the creek channel.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

The property I hunt is divided by a 2 lane hwy. 2 months ago I was hunting at night when a group came in and I took a shoulder shot on the biggest hog, est 200lbs followed by a couple rounds with the 9mm. When it got hit he fell to the ground and started kicking up dirt with his back legs for 20 seconds, actually dug a 6inch hole. Then he stood up and ran off that's when the 9mm came into play. I could tell he was hurt bad as I watched hobble off. Gave him an hour or so then started looking for blood. Plenty of blood and gave up after about a half of a mile of tracking him and figured I'll find him at daylight. At daylight I picked up were I had left off and followed the blood trail all of the way across the property and highway and onto the neighbors property until I could go no farther.all together I tracked the blood trail almost 2 miles and no sign that he ever stopped or laid down.

First shot looked like a snout hit to me.
They are tuff critters. I find if the first shot is off, it gets the adrenaline pumping and its like nothing short of complete annihilation will stop them. I made a less than perfect first shot on a moving hog this weekend with a 45-70. The second shot center punched the shoulders and he was down. After that he still kicked and flopped around enough to move about 4 or 5 big steps. That was at less than 20 yards too.
It's hell eatin em live

They can absorb some lead. They must be part buffalo.

Any time it looks like a pig is trying to get back to its feet, I put another shot into, now. Any time I am not sure about how good the shot was, I put another shot into the hog, now. Any time the hog doesn't quiet down and go still in what I think is a reasonable amount of time, I put another shot into it, now. These are all from lessons learned in the field, LOL.
I would rather spend a few bucks on extra ammo to confirm a hog is down than to spend 2-4 hours (and sometimes a second trip back the next day which costs a lot more in fuel) looking for a likely mortally wounded hog that is undoubtedly dead somewhere in the local area. Ammo is cheap by comparison to time and effort spent searching.
However, the only real mistake I think you made was letting him get up that last time where you weren't ready to shoot him again. You were dinking with you light and zoom and he started moving out of the image and into the brush and you didn't pop him. That is just one of those lessons your learn from. Everything else looked like you are attempting to do what was right.
I agree. He is undoubtedly dead.
