Chad's Lab Radar came in two days ago. We used it today and oh man is it nice!!!
We set it up on a tripod just in front of our muzzles, between the rifles. Chad shot 15 rounds from 100 yards, 400, 700, and 800. Chrographing every shot as he changed targets. When he asked for a summary it told slowest round, fastest, and ES. Then it was my turn. Neither one of us had to reposition and it picked up my rifle just as it did his. I input the average MV the Lab Radar gave into a Kestrel 4500 with Applied Ballistics, shot the range, and then checked what the Kestrel told me my corrections should've been. Exact match!
Extremely cool and conveinent chronograph!

I really want one but am trying to justify the cost. I wonder if I could rent it out to help pay for it...

Extremely cool and conveinent chronograph! Game changer...I've been waiting to see the reports from them before I actually decided to bench the Oehler....sounds like it might be time.

Can you calculate an accurate BC out of the data? Or do you need further down range data points?

You need velocities from at least two different ranges to calculate effective BC.

You need velocities from at least two different ranges to calculate effective BC. I think this thing gives you 0 (muzzle), 25y, 50y, 75y and on the larger bullets even 100y all ot the same time. I was wondering if those were enough spread to make an accurate calculation or do you need more like muzzle, 100y and 300y to get a real BC. I'm thinking 2 decimal places is enough accuracy, but if you could reliably calculate BC to 3 decimal places with the 25y data points, that would be incredible. As a bonus it would be nice if you could line this thing up next to your car and get 0-60 and 1/4 mile times

I just looked at a video and the web page for this outfit. It can record velocity for multiple distances so I don't see why achieved BC can't be calculated.
It seems tor that this thing could be improved with a remote control unit.
It looks like a pretty good concept to me. I'll bet it'll be even better once they incorporate some user-suggested changes over the next few years.

I did the email sign up for LabRadar but haven't heard from them. I'm replacing a CED M2 as well. My range is on my ranch which I live on and I had planned to just leave it setup as the shooting positions are covered and protected.
I really expected to hear from them but have received nothing.

The new Lab Radar is freakin' awesome! The best thing about it is that it is placed at the muzzle and picks up the shot in a large cone shaped area. So, you do not have to be lined up perfectly with the target for it to work. You can program it to record the velocity at 5 different locations out to 250 yards. I set it up at 0, 10, 50, 100, and 250. When I was shooting at 200, it didn't read the 250, obviously. But when we went to engage targets past that (out to 800), it was picking up at all distances. While at the Heat Stroke match over the weekend, I set it up with some guys shooting suppressors, and it worked fine. You have to increase the sensitivity, but it works.
Another thing I learned about the Magneto Speed Chrono. I met the regional rep for Magneto at the match this weekend (super cool guy). We talked about the issue of this chrono hanging on the barrel and changing up the barrel harmonics and a shift in point of impact (POI). I explained to him his chrono is freakin' awesome, but I can't have the harmonics change and POI shift. He then explained to me that it does not change the "barrel" harmonics, but rather the bullet!! He explained that they have done all kinds of high speed camera and barrel testing, and that the conclusion they found was that the POI shift is from the shock wave from the ripple effect coming off the bayonet of the chrono. He said that the muzzle blast and shock wave bounce off the bayonet, and cause the bullet to slightly change direction from this shock wave bouncing off the bayonet. So it's actually the bullet changing direction, and not the barrel harmonics. If you just need to get velocity, then the Magneto is a great way to go. But for me testing the accuracy of rifles while using the chrono, the magneto won't work for me. This Lab Radar is perfect for what I need.

For as much as you need it for your business and as a write-off, why don't you just bite the bullet and go with EHLER okiehuntr It's not a write-off it is a business expense. Every thing that you purchase ends up taking out of your profit margin.

That tells me to expect poi shift while using. I wish the lab radar was more competitive from a price point

He said some calibers and bullet weights exhibit more or less POI shift, but Magneto does acknowledge that there is or can be a POI shift. For the radar and what you get and how easy it is to use, I would have paid more for it, honestly.

That makes sense in that it seems to either have no effect or it most often seems to shoot slightly higher from what I have experienced so far with my magneto

I've only shot about 10 shots with a magneto on my gun that was previously tuned without one. I find it extremely difficult to make the claim it doesn't change the harmonics when I've played with a tuner a bit and I know how little of a change it takes to a tuner to make a significant change on the target.
The LabRadar is of interest though...

Hey Jeff,
If you are talking about Lab Radar, I sent them multiple emails, signed up for their waiting list, and talked to Richard multiple times. He was fairly easy to reach.

When you add yourself to there list, They will email out when they know they will have units. I am on the list but was told that I would be 2nd or 3rd batch.
Still debating if I am getting one. Is the Convience of not shooting through the chrony worth it?

Is the Convience of not shooting through the chrony worth it? How often do you shoot through a chronograph in a month? Chad does weekly, I do monthly. Chad waited, I will wait. This is the best system out there. Just sayin.

Is the Convenience of not shooting through the chrony worth it? For me, 100% Yes. Plus, I'm tired of dealing with tripods and wind. I've spent good money on tripods, only to have issues with them. The wind can easily blow over a chrono with the sky screens. I broke a mount on my chrono this way. Plus, if I am shooting in a different spot other than where I am lined up, I would have to move the chrono. If I am at Top Gun (or any public range) and need to go get my chrono, I have to wait for a cease fire to go move it or to go get it when I am done. This system is as simple as pointing it in the direction of your target and hitting a button to arm the unit. There are a couple of wow reloading/shooting items that I think I own, and the Giraurd case trimmer and this chrono are the top two.
