Congrats on some great animals. I leased from Lanny years ago. Is he still alive and kicking? He definitely has some huge axis running around on his ranches.

Just joined so I thought I would share a recent hunt. Ranch was the Leinweber Ranch in Mountain Home, 6000 acres low fence. I was using my Ruger Hawkeye with 338 Federal and 180 Ballistic Tips. Hunt was first week in June when the rut just started. I was able to get an Axis and a nice Blackbuck. It was spot and stalk, both shots were 150 yards from sticks. I actually missed the Blackbuck on the first shot but my guide said I think you hit him so I took a 2nd shot at a running animal and dropped him with a neck shot. Turned out I missed the first shot. That 2nd shot was a miracle but I thought I was shooting at a wounded animal. Great Axis! I would have thought he was near 34 looking at the nice picture. Enjoy the delicious steaks!

I went through Desert Safaris who is the outfitter and he has leased the ranch for Axis the last 10 years. I did meet Lanny, super nice guy. We is alive and kicking and looked great. His ranch is beautiful.

His ranch is beautiful. I see Cully Vickers is a guide for Desert Safaris. He is Lanny's son in law. Lanny is a hoot. He has some great stories and would always come over and have a drink or two with us. One evening on an opening weekend he grabbed one of our group and had him shoot a young angora goat. He barbecued cabrito for us. As you found out, he's a super nice guy.

Thanks for sharing guys, I don't know Lanny or Cully or any of the Vickers but they sound just like some friends of my family when I was young. That's the part of hunting that I love as much as the actual hunt. Folks like that are what instilled the love of hunting in me and several other young men around San Angelo in the 60's and 70's.

Don't know how I missed this. But Cully is my neighbor. Great folks and awesome neighbors.
