any way to darken antlers on an old deer

Left my sons deer outside from last year to rot then I was gonna clean it up and Euro it for him. Well the antlers turned almost white. Anything I can do to stain them back dark????

I have used stain for the same reason. Turned out good. You can get antler stain from the taxidermy suppliers too.

Best thing is potassium permanganate. As a knifemaker, Ive used it for many years. Dont be fooled when you mix it though, it goes on purple but dries to a nice brown color.

Best thing is potassium permanganate. As a knifemaker, Ive used it for many years. Dont be fooled when you mix it though, it goes on purple but dries to a nice brown color. I didn't think many knew about PP. I have used it for sometime now. Good stuff.

Very small dabs of dark walnut around the bases, then early American over the dark walnut and on the tines. I used steel wool to polish out the tine tips a bit once it was dry.

Awesome thanks, any suggestion on elk antlers? I found an old skull of a young 5x4 I was just gonna use some dark stain but didn't wanna screw it up and ruin it.
