Can I swap barrels on an 870 to get a 3 inch chamber?

It actually is a 3 inch gun. Guy that traded it for some used drag slicks didn't realize it. Not a bad thing to happen. The tactical 870 cost more than the tires new. I may keep it to pig hunt with. I'm little surprised the trigger housing is plastic. Never owned one so it'll be a cool learning experience.

This is kind of true, but kind of not... The difference between the 2 3/4" and magnum receivers is the ejector... and that is it. You can take a non-magnum receiver and have the 3" ejector put in it. You do have to have the gun refinished when you do this though. So, not a straight forward swap of the barrel only, but it can be done.

Because the ejector is riveted in place. You have to cut out the old rivets and then grind down the new rivets to be flush with the receiver.
