Took four of my young grandkids to Galveston this weekend. Dude catches this and lands it on the beach next to them. Needless to say their swimming was over - around 5 footer

lol you would be amazed at what you see when you fly over those beaches between Galveston and Matagorda. used to get some of the cooler helicopter pilots to fly low down the beach coming in from off shore rigs just to see all the sharks. It will make you never want to get in the water again.

Yes sir, the swimming party would have been over. Well if the grand Kiddos were pure Toots. might have let them swam a little more

Yeah, unless your plan is to never let them get into any body of saltwater ever again, I'm not sure why you pulled them out.
There are sharks way bigger than a 5-footer within 200 yards of you any time you're in the ocean. We won a shark fishing tournament out of Wrightsville Beach, NC fishing the 2nd sand bar one year. People were waving at us and laughing as we were pulling in an 8-ft hammerhead. They had no idea that's what we were doing, but they're always there.

Same thing happened to my little cousins this weekend, but the guy fishing next to them caught a few in the 2-3 foot range.
That's a decent sized one. I haven't swam in the surf for quite a while, id rather fish in it.

I wouldn't swim in the ocean without my benelli cordoba Swam into a school of mixed jelly fish off the Georgia coast when I was 5, lifeguards buried me in sand to cool the stinging. Burned everywhere but my shorts area and face. Still remember what the life guards called them sea wasp and that aint no chit.

They're everywhere this time of year with the amount of baitfish in the surf. Just keep your kid tied off to a liter and all is fine. I can see kiddos freaking out about BABY JAWS getting landed next to them on the beach though.

Have a better chance of being struck by lightening....but why take the chance....one in a million is still someone...we see 'em every time we go to the beach....if those people in the surf really knew what was swimming just feet from them they would not get in the water...I get in cuz I know the risks are minimal..... ...calculated risk...

Yep, had a tourist die out here last year, 12 foot tiger took her arm off. She was only 20 yds off the beach. This is clear water too, not gulf water.

I can't wait Get into them like that out of Sabine Pass where you can only keep out 1 rod/person or you'll have more than you can handle at one time. Gets to where you just use bass rods to simplify things.

We rent a beach unit at Blue Mountain every other year....one of my favorite things to do is sit on the 3rd floor deck overlooking the water and watch what's swimming around in between everyone....sharks and rays all over the place. Thing is, you never see them when you're in the water with them...but they're definitely there. Every now and then a really big one comes by and clears the water for a while. Had one of those giant hammer heads come by a few years back. By far the biggest shark I've ever seen.

I had a brother that was terrified of sharks until he was like 20. He'd go in the water, but the first sign of even a mullet and he shot out like a rocket. Was pretty funny, actually.

I use to pull 4-6 foot black tips and bull sharks, and some 3-4 foot sand sharks out of the surf around Galveston and High Island back in the day on a regular basis. Would always be fun when everyone watched us release them right back into the water where everyone was still swimming.

Definitely not a high risk adventure, but even still, it really makes you think when you get in the water.

Used to do it all the time when I lived down around Galveston. Nothing clears the water out faster. Always made for interesting conversations with some of the beach goers. I don't get to go hardly ever anymore but sure do miss it. A few that really got people out fast.

Yea I used to tag and release every one that I caught. Was always interesting to see how far and how much they would grow if they ever got caught again.

I grin when somebody gets excited about a small shark getting caught on the beach Most folks don't realize how many of them are here in the bays and flats too. They are everywhere, cute little boogers....
