How often have you used or more specifically, put your snake boots, gators or chaps to the test? I understand there is a lot of snakes in Texas and I have read a few posts where people have walked by a snake and we're glad they had them on but haven't read anything about anybody being struck while wearing them. Just curious as to how useful they are despite the obvious fact of being a precaution.

It really depends on the terrain and area of the state. Where I live now I have never worn them in 3 yrs and have not seen a rattlesnake yet. Keep looking for one though. When I managed a ranch in La Salle County I wore snake boots 365 days per year. I killed 50+ one year and even in the winter months. I know guys who live down in South Texas that never wear them. I chose to wear them since I was 65 miles from the closest hospital and lived on the ranch alone. I liked wearing them so I could concentrate of whatever I was doing, I still watched for them though just not as much as when I had no snake boots on.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

I know I feel less stressful when im hunting in spring or summer with them on. The two times I have been struck at didn't have any . Luckily both missed moccasin hit pants and missed meat though he prob spent the next couple days trying to get that brown stuff out of his eyes. .. Rattler missed altogether .all I can think of is God was watching out for the fool that almost stepped on him. He is still trying to get that brown stuff out of his eyes. ....

we have them on our lease in south texas but really do not see them that often. When we do they are usually monsters - 5-6 feet .
I have good boots and wear them at times. During summer though they are very hot and I admit I wear my regular boots most of the time - even when walking through the brush. I just walk carefully and constantly look.
We have ponds that we fish and I run into them there at times along with the Indio's - now that will scare the fool out of you if you run across one of those big suckers

Our's stay on when were at the lease. Friend of ours was at his ranch in Victoria. He got struck by a rattler, and the force was enough it knocked him on his butt.
Fang's did not penetrate his snake boots. Underwear change and he was gtg.
He is your friend defender your dog. Be worthy of such devotion

I remember when I hired a exterminator after I moved into my house. He was treating the foundation when I heard him scream like a little girl. A Indigo had reared up and hissed at him like a Cobra.

Ive never been struck at by a snake that I wasn't intentionally jacking with. I stepped directly over, as in it was between my legs rattle snake walking to the blind in the dark with no flashlight it scared the carp out of me, but I don't think he even struck, just rattled. We have seen at least 3 of these on our place. I think they help keep the rattlers in check. For pretty deep south texas bfe, we see very few rattlers. When im working in and around thick cover and probably not looking where im stepping like i should, I wear chaps for cheap insurance!

Bought a pair and wore them today for the first time. I was less Skeered. Pretty sure they'd work on a little ol copper head which is my biggest concern. Not so sure about a big fat rattlesnake...

I've never had a snake hit me, but was bird hunting with a group of guys in tall grass. A rattler hit one of the guys in our group in the back of the calf of his boot as he walked over it. He had snake boots on, and it didn't penetrate. He said it felt like someone hit him with a baseball bat in the back of the leg. He had white venom dripping down the back of his boot and a wet spot down the front of his trousers. The guys without snake boots went to town that night and bought some.

Indigo just kept wrapping his body around the rattler and smothering him - was quite a site. Wish I had a video of it

I got a straddle of a big rattler once before he went off. If he struck at me he missed. That was years ago when I was in my 50s and could fly a short ways so I did not look at him until I landed.

I wear them anytime I cross the state line headed to tx. Have a less in south tx and though I've never seen a rattler on it seen quite a few on the gravel road leading to it. I have a a lot of ponds and Indigos so imagine they help keep them down. They are the only ones I won't do a power brake on with my truck. I actually let them cross the road. I wear boots for piece of mind. I'm short so chances are they'll get me closer to boys than I want. I see a snake I go through 2 movements. A physical movement and a bowel movement. I know 2 fellows there that have been hit. One was wearing snake boots and the other wasn't. Neither one was penetrated but the guy not wearing them had on regular cowboy boots and lucky it didn't strike an inch higher.
