Call me when they are big enough to filet, never mind, instead call me when they are fried.

That's great! I can't wait to restock myself but ours are brim full and I'm afraid if I stock now and it rains again they will be lost. I'm also gonna stock tadpoles, does anybody have experience with tadpoles?

where from? just curious as my place in east texas is in need Dunn's Fish Farm. Did ours back at the end of February. Had to drive about an hour to Corrigan...to pick up the order then race back to get them in the pond. You can check their delivery route schedule at their website, hopefully find a town near you. Typically, they deliver to one or more of the local feed stores. Best to get the fish in your pond/lake within about 90 minutes of picking them up...or you will suffer greater mortality rates. DON'T just dump them in....you'll need to let each batch acclimate for a short period before releasing them...so allow time in your schedule.

By "acclimate", you're talking about placing the bags full of fish and water into the pond so that the water temp in the bag can equalize slowly to the temp of the pond, yes?

Yes that is what acclimate means. let the bags float in the pond near the bag so the temp can adjust. You can also pour some of the pond water into the bag after its been in the water for a few minutes and the temperature is adjusted. This will adjust the ph in the bag to that of the pond and it will not be as much of a shock to the fish when you release them.

How many do you stock? Most of our ponds are pretty small, less than 1/2 acre or so.

How many do you stock? Most of our ponds are pretty small, less than 1/2 acre or so. That's about my size also...I have 2 of them. I just bought this place last July so I don't have a heck of lot of experience in stocking fish. I try to keep the catfish in a different tank than the crappie and bass...but a few duck flyovers and they're intermixed anyways. I am putting all the crappie and bass in my bigger tank. As I understand it you don't want black bass or white crappie in small tanks....they are both prolific breeders and will not have much growth. Hybrid sand and striper bass and hybrid crappie are not big breeders and work better for small tanks.

If you want to manage your tanks and fish subscribe to Pond Boss magazine. It is a great resource for small lake management. Bob Lusk really knows his stuff and there are great articles on what kind of fish to stock, how many, etc.

http://www.tylerfishfarm.com/Tyler Fish Farm is where I got all the fish for my pond. I told them how big the pond was, that I wanted to fish for bass and where my water level was. He suggested I start out with fathead minnows and copper nose bluegill that fall, then in the spring, to put in the large mouth bass. It's been about 6 years now and so far this year, the pond record is a 7 pound bass and several in the 4 pound range. Yesterday evening we caught several in the one to 2 pound range before a beaver showed up. Then we went beaver hunting without success until dark.
