I love FN pistols. My brother has a FNP-9mm which is the older model. Great trigger, grip, and very reliable. The FNX is the same thing with a picatinny rail which is great because the rail system on the FNP is weird.
A buddy of mine hates Glocks, says they don't fit his hand. He has a FNS-9 and its great as well. I fired it and that will be the next pistol I buy for sure. Not to mention, all pistols come with 3 magazines, thats awesome! I believe the magazines hold 17 rounds in 9mm if I'm not mistaken.
Have not fired the 40 or 45. The new compact versions look great too.

I've had my FNX-9 for a few years now, around the time they first came out. Overall great gun in terms of reliability and cycling even cheap ammo. FYI, I somewhat abused this gun a little just to "put it through its paces." Nothing extreme, but it handled it all well.
complaints: The trigger is undeniably crap. Disclaimer, I'm a glock and 1911 guy mostly when it comes to handguns and don't have or shoot much else. While all the amidextrous features are nice, the decocking/safety lever itself had a failure. If you're a right hander, which i am, it's not a problem because the main shaft that engages the decocking and safety is and the lever on the left side (for righties) is a single piece so it functions perfectly. The lever for the other side was simply glues or something to the shaft after it was installed on the gun.

I have an FNS-9 and a FNX-45 Tactical. Two of my favorite pistols. Highly accurate, extremely dependable. With interchangeable back-straps both fit perfect, even the FNX-45 which is a double stack 45acp. Take a box of 50 rounds and you have 4 left in your pocket with the three mags. I believe they are underrated because not as well know as a couple other Mfg's.

We have sold several of both. I personally run the FNX-9 and ran the FNX-45; both are extremely solid. Wouldn't trade it for any other brand.

I have an older FNP-45 Competition. It is one of the few guns I can honestly say I would not trade.
The main difference between the FNX and FNS.... The FNX is a traditional DA/SA hammer fired pistol. The FNS is striker fired, like a Glock.

I have an FNS-9 and I am very happy with it. It is accurate and fits my hand well. I think the rail is a little sharp and it took some time to find a holster that I liked but now I think it is easier to find good holster choices. I would recommend the FNS-9.

The FNP-45 seems like a whole other beast. My buddy got the tactical model and even just by feel it felt like a vastly superior product to my FNX-9. The FNP-45 seems much more a of comparable/competitive model to an H&K and my FNX-9 is clearly not on that level.

When my son comes home on leave, it is the first pistol he wants to shoot.

Certainly no expert, but am an FNS 9 owner. Great pistol. Accurate. Enjoyable to shoot. Absolutely no hiccup's with any type of ammo run thru it.
Simply a nice firearm.
