Hello guys and gals,
I know what I am about to say is going to light a fire under some of your....
But!! hear me out.
I saw on a recent post where someone commented on a buddy giving them a hard time for hunting over corn and in a blind.
Now, I see it on both sides of the argument.
For me personally, I won't hunt under corn in a blind unless I'm invited to do so because I refuse to spend good money on hunting unless I'm doing it the way I prefer. That way is not sitting in a blind. I have been hunting since I was a boy and I just don't find it appealing anymore (if I have to pay for it). I prefer to go scout and hunt Colorado. Hook up with a guide in Canada if I'm going to spend that type of money.
That being said, some of the best times of my life was going to my families lease and sitting in blind. Not just the hunting aspect but the camaraderie as well.
So, I guess I will just ask the hard question and allow you to chime in.
Is it wrong or lesser to hunt over corn and sit in a covered blind?
Let the beating begin..........
Thanks, CM

I hunt how and where I want to, not how or where someone else wants me to.

The only guy that has ever razzed me about a blind and feeder was from Minnesota. He hunted in a tree stand over a corn field. Splitting hairs.
I hunt in a blind that looks at a feeder. I have hunted several times, and hope to again, spot and stalk in several places in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, no fence and high fence. (Elephants kind of make high fences a joke.) I've killed mule deer in Texas on spot and stalk, totally alone.
If your confident in your hunting skills, you no longer give a rat's behind what the idiots that are stupid enough to spout their opinion as gospel think.

It's not the funnest way to hunt imo but oftentimes the most effective.
Nothing "wrong" about it.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I don't use feeders but I have used hand corn. I don't really consider it 'hunting' as there aren't really any skills involved other than the ability to shoot. I understand that the use of feeders allows hunters that have to travel to hunt and have limited time more/better opportunities to put venison on the table. It also can turn barren/limited areas into huntable land, boosting income for owners and increasing the amount of available hunting acres, which in turn means more people in the field, which is certainly a good thing.
As long as people are safe about what they are doing, we should not be criticizing or condemning other hunters about what tactics they use. You do for you and let them do for them.

The odds of success are much higher with baiting but I find it more satisfying when I don't and am successful. I think hunting with bait can increase safety because hunters will be in a known place and likely to stay there. Both ways beat sitting on the coach.

I'm hunting from a blind, seems to rain the majority of the time I'm hunting. Not real concerned about the feeders, rarely am looking at them anyway.

I usually hunt from a blind with a feeder or hand dumped. This was the first year I hunted just sitting under a tree in a lawn chair. I now prefer it that way, just found where the deer were moving and sat. I'm in love now with open chair sitting.

Sun was about to go down and he said "go sit next to tree and watch this wheat field, I'll unpack". I went over there with no big expectations but still hoping. Before I knew it a big 8 pnt started cruising across the wheat field. I lined him up in my sights and BANG!! He went down. Looked back, waiting for my dad to see what just happened but nothing. I looked back across the field and saw a group of does, couldn't believe it. I lined up the one I wanted and BANG!! She went down. One small time frame but I memory that will last forever. I learned that night how to field dress my own deer. Two!! of them. I will never forget that evening.

If I felt bad about it, I would not do it.
If anyone else feels bad or doesn't like the way I hunt they need to mind their own business.

Blind hunting is probably the most effective way to hunt/sit. I'm gonna' be comfortable and hunt longer. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Feeders can help you be more selective. With antler restrictions you need to be able to size up your buck. Feeders let you do that.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

I hunt for my personal enjoyment. I don't judge what others do, or care how they go about enjoying their free time. I've hunted every way possible from working dogs, doing drives, sitting in a blind, backpacking and horseback riding into the wilderness, sitting in the back of a truck, road hunting, flying into camp on floats and tundra tires and good ole hiking the trails. All have their pros and cons, all where great times and there isn't one method that is better then the other.
I think the real question is why would anybody care what another does if it is legal?

Chunky, you're dealing with a bunch of old guys that have been there, done that. I'm betting that all of us have hunted many times without a blind and no bait. I know I have. Our lease has mesquite and prickly pear, so there is just no sitting under a tree unless you landscape your tree. I'm too old and stove up to enjoy stumbling through cactus and mesquite to finally have a heart attack when I spook a hog or deer, so I do what it takes to be comfy and enjoy myself.
It's hard work setting up a blind and feeder, so I am going to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Nice warm, dry blind, hot coffee, comfy chair, elevated platform for a better view, room to stretch out and take a nap.
My next blind is gonna be a helicopter.

If it was that easy every hunter would kill a trophy buck each year! I don't think it happens as easy as many seem to think. There is a lot of work that goes into hunting with a blind and feeder. It is not necessarily a cheap method either. I personally enjoy all types of hunting but see little difference in hunting over a feeder than hunting over a food plot.
If its legal and enjoyable to each their own!

I do not hunt deer. I protect my corn feeders from animals that would attempt to eat it.
Can't help it if they cannot find their own corn.
