Got a $100 budget. Don't want to skimp on rings, but don't want to spend more than $100 either. What is your favorite at that price point? 30mm rings. I'm not opposed to 1 piece mounts but everything I've looked at have been individual rings so far.

The answer is always seekins. Give Scott at liberty optics a call. He may be able to help you out.

Normal price for the seekins 4 screw medium rings is 119.00 . Even if you pay full price, 119 is a bargain for the quality of rings you will receive. You won't miss that twenty dollar bill over the life of those rings.

$35 for the SWFA rings plus $25 for a gunsmith to lap them is all I was willing to spend.
I'm sorry, but when is enough enough? $100 isn't enough for rings. $1000 isn't enough for a scope. $500 isn't enough for a rifle. Match factory ammo is inadequate.
For a starter setup, I would assume that Burris XTR or Signature Zee rings would be more than adequate at half the price of Seekins. But if you really want some higher end rings, Skylar at SWFA recommended the $75 TPS rings.

I like Warne Maxima rings at $54. They make make a line for integral base rifles like Ruger and a line for Weaver type bases. They also make a Weaver type base.

Chinese pot metal isn't my cup of tea. I also want a low profile ring, hence the suggestion of seekins. The large cross bolt and nut that are used by TPS, Badger, Mk4, Burris, etc, etc are a no go for me. When carrying a bolt rifle slung, logic says you want to carry the rifle with the bolt facing outwards. Using badger style rings, you end up with the cross bolts rubbing on you from the other side of the rifle. Unless, of course, you set up the rings to where the bolt handle and ring nuts are on the same side. That doesn't work either because those nuts have the chance of catching spent brass upon ejection. Rings are a fixed cost item. Buy quality once and you won't have to worry throughout the life of the firearm. That few extra dollars spent up front will be more than absorbed in ammo, travel, range fees, tags, etc, etc. This all assumes the rifle will actually be used. If the rifle is some sort of safe queen,, then just about any ring will work.

If the rifle is some sort of safe queen,, then just about any ring will work. Normally I'm with patriot on this type of thing. I built this rifle on a budget. But for the "cheaper" items (trigger, rail, rings) I don't see too much reason to skimp. I could have kept the factory trigger that functioned perfectly, but I put a Timney in. The price difference between a budget set of rings and a premium set of rings isn't that large of a gap. The scope I'm running I gave $200 for ($370 retail) it has all the features I need to learn to shoot long range. The price gap between my scope and a premium scope was too large for me to overcome right now while I decide if I like long range shooting (couldn't afford a $2000 night force or S&B) but I can afford a $120 set of rings. That was probably as clear as mud, but my point is, I want to buy premium parts where budget allows. And buy "value" items when it doesn't allow. So I'll probably end up going with the seekins, unless I get other recommendations or a great set shows up in the classifieds today.

Yup. Rails, rings, and triggers are all buy once cry once fixed cost items.

Please tell me what bolt action will eject that much vertical. Several thousand rounds I've ejected and that has not happened one single time.

I wouldn't know, I try to use seekins and other lower profile rings as much as possible. I sure haven't seen many people set up there cross bolt on the ejection port side.
On a similar note, I have had a bunch of brass bounce off abnormally large parallax/illumination knobs. They would hit the knob, and bounce right back into the ejection port. It was one of my main reasons for buying the Razor way back then. The razor has a tiny parallax knob, and my reliability problems disappeared.

Don't we all? Yes, when I can. A couple of views of nice low profile seekins rings.

I should be in that group too. I'm a lefty with a right hand bolt gun. Tisk, tisk. You ever come to the range and you can shoot one of my lefties. You'll become way faster cycling the bolt and will be able to do it while maintaining your sight picture. Just because you are in your right mind does not mean you have to settle for a bolt handle on the "common" side.

Will you let my right hand gun and my moa/moa scope on the range? Lol.

Teach him moa, but give him the lefty bolt and a mil/mil scope and let him see the light.
He will thank you for it.

Sorry to hijack your thread caribou, but I have a question for the gurus that came to mind after reading some of the posts: I just mounted my SWFA rings with the nut on the right side. Is that going to cause any issues or is the mounting orientation just personal preference? I didn't notice any directional differences on the rings.

He will thank you for it. Guarantee you that will happen! When a guy shows up with an MOA scope I teach both MOA and Mil. Guess how many say "well crap Mil is way easier to use".
