Hey ladies and gents what is the proper sized feeder pen? And what is the cheapest most durable way to build one?

The larger the better IMO. I like 10 hog panels minimum in a round pen. Takes 20-5' T-posts for a really strong pen. The larger you build the pen the more deer you can have inside it at one time. I also like it large enough to keep all the corn inside the pen to keep hogs away.

Mine is 40'X40', roughly 38" tall. I used goat and barbed wire. Its mainly to keep cows out, but so far its turned back the hogs as well. Its big enough to allow 5+ deer in at the same time, but if I were to build another one I'd make it bigger.

What about rolls of welded wire will that work? Yes but you will need better corners to keep it tight.

Welded wire will work but like Ranchman said, keep it tight, use more t-posts. Also, have cattle, I'd error a little taller with welded wire, maybe 40-44" high or so to further deter the cattle from challenging it. I have used welded wire and it does keep the hogs out and when a little taller, the cattle too..

I had 8 panel in a square, bought two more going round. Bigger is better! Hog panels cost me $26.00 each at the feed store.

Would steel rebar work for post That will depend on several things- size and amount of hogs, type of livestock and grazing pressure, type of wire/paneling used & soil type.

This is the most accurate answer I have heard. It all depends on what you are trying to keep away from your feeder and what you want to let into your feeder.

the bigger the better. you need to think of it not just as a place to put your feeders, but the place the deer will eat and need to feel comfortable. I like to eat. I don't like to eat in a crowded place. I don't think deer do either. if your pen is too small, the dominant bucks will run the does and smaller bucks out of it. I'm actually thinking of going a little bigger on some of my pens... up to 20 panels, and throw a second protein feeder in them on opposite sides.

As big as you can make it, hunted a place once where if 2 deer got in the "pen" it was too crowded. Deer pretty much avoided feeders at that place, have hogs chance at all the corn in the pen

Bigger is better but a pen is better than no pen... I've got some that are made with only 4 panels and deer don't mind it at all

Mine is 17 panels at 16' each and it's round. My pen is big enough where no corn is thrown outside the panels which keeps the cows and pigs away. I've seen as many as 13 deer in my pen at one time, so I believe bigger is better.

Yes. If you do not have to worry about cows, use hog panels, they are 34" tall, be sure and put the small openings on the bottom

Like others have said here, "BIGGER IS BETTER". My pens are all made with hog panels and I use 17 panels plus a 10 foot gate. I build them in a circle and will also make sure to have a little cover in them. They are 90 feet across and the deer feel comfortable enough to lay down in them.
Have a blessed day. Deathrow Jethro
