Describe spring cleaning. Something that big seems hard to miss, even in the fall.
Had no idea they got that big. Most don't. Big tough outdoorsman kill them. Make themselves feel manly. Well you can call me a big tough outdoorsman. No reason in having a critter capable of causing serious injury in your yard with people and pets.

I don't kill rattlers at the lease but at the house they are not so lucky!

You should never encourage someone that does not possess the experience and knowledge to handle a venomous snake to do so. A person that is capable should not handle a potentially dangerous animal while alone. Wasn't the big tough outdoorsman one of the Village People? I could go on and on but I must check on my 3 year old. I gave him a loaded gun to play with a while ago.

Most of what people know about snakes is incorrect anyhow. If they were as mean and aggressive and dangerous as everyone makes them out, I'd been dead a long time ago.

Sorry, but venomous snakes don't get a pass from me. If that puts a chink in my manhood, than I'll just be a sissy.

Mako, don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with relocation. But by challenging someone's manhood to get them to handle a venomous snake is a bad approach. This cold easily lead one to try to learn the hard way. In this case it could cost you the loss of an appendage or in some cases even be fatal. Education first and then comes execution of the solution. I don't blame anyone for killing a venomous snake in their yard, at camp or even in the field if they are running dogs.. It' a personal choice. Also, this is the worst time of the year to be bitten as some snakes have not fed and their venom sacs are most likely as full as they ever will be.

A few years ago I almost lost my female black lab Widgeon to a 2 foot prairie rattler. After I got her to the vet for what turned into a 3 day stay, I came home and was outside until midnight with a flashlight and shovel until I got it. If it rattles it dies in my book.

You're right, just as easy to catch it and remove it as kill it. No reason in killing a native critter that can cause serious injury in your yard with people and pets. Uh, that *is* the reason. If it comes anywhere close to my friends, family, or pets, it gets the noisy end of a gun. Not because I'm tough, not because I'm scared, but because there's something dangerous that's close to something I care for. I can assure you, it's much, much easier than trying to catch it.
