Did the final load testing this morning in the soup. Cold and wet, but I had to get it done. This rifle is going into service on Thirsday, so I gotta get some ammo built. 162 gr. A-maxes atop H-Varget. Making 2620 fps on virgin brass. I believe this will do fine.

Very nice. I might have to take your class one day. I've been shooting since I was a kid but wouldn't say I'm a great shot by any means lol. No telling what all I've been doing wrong

That rifle wont shoot :-) I am testing 162s over 2000mr right now. When I get the chrono from Mike I will test it some more. Trying to get the 162 going faster in my shorty.

I'm glad mines already being built. Otherwise you would think I was trying to duplicate yours. Right down to the 21" obermyer. Looks great. Except the bolts on the wrong side.

Very nice JG. Could we get details on your suppressor? Shark Suppressors, "Tigershark", 300 Win Mag rated, so I run it on everything. What does that rig weigh before the scope and can? As much as a rock....... I don't know, I still don't have any scales. Anybody got some kind of old antique scale I could buy? That's what I really want.

Awesome rifle, love that stock.
May sound like a dumb question but what are some of the benefits of a 7mm-08 cartridge? I don't know anything about it but have been told the ballistics suck. I have never looked into it but it has kept me away from them.

Have been shooting a 7mm-08 for 32+ years and have no doubts about its abilities hunting or target. Did you know the cartridge started out as a long range wildcat target round for 600 to 1000 yards? Remington did us a favor in bringing it to the commercial world, but some disservice has been done with factory ammo. Almost all factory loads are 140gr or less which do not take good advantage of the higher BC bullets available for the 7mm. Like a lot of cartridges Big Green brings to the market this one was not backed that well with quality ammo and bullets for years but was too good to die like some others have and continue to do. Now for hunting I have never needed more than the 140s but for long range shooting the 160 somethings will do much better. If you doubt what the 7mm-08 will do in the hunting world, take a look at some of BMD's threads from Kacee's hunting. She is using a 120gr Barnes bullet and has killed some impressive critters. For my own hunting hogs and whitetails are the biggest things I have shot with it but that 32 year old rifle has over 100 kills and all but 2 the animal has fell within sight of the shooter, those 2 it was the shooters fault making a not so good shot but the animals were recovered. Africa thread

Yes thank you kmon1. Andrew, everything comes down to BC and MV. We want as much as we can get in both departments. increasing each usually meana increasing recoil, like my 7 Rem mag pushing 180's. Very high BC pushing the bullet very fast, equals significant recoil abd a prett short barrel life. I love my 6.5's, and pushing 140's at 2800 fps they are awesome to 1400 yards, and I've pushed em that far. The 7-08 has more BC (with this bullet) but less velocity than the 6.5mm 140 gr. So it gained in one department and lost in another. What that amounts to is the wind holds are close to the same for each cartridge. And that's all that really matters on the range. Plus the barrel life should be a bit better than the 6.5mm. And I didn't have a 7mm-08, so I wanted one
