Strange, my cheap Para 1911 has fed everything from 185 gr. cast lead loads to 230 gr. Speer Gold Dots, as has the Springfield, Colt, and Rock Island before it...I will never knock a Glock's reliability (other than their inability to shoot lead), but I prefer American designed guns made out of steel that got our guys through two world wars and several other conflicts admirably. As a gunsmith, IMO the biggest problem with the 1911 has been everyone's attempt to "improve" it. The gun was designed to run loose, just like an AK. The question is, how many 100 year old Glocks will be in the armory to rebuild in 2016? False.

Directly copied from Glock's FAQs on their own website: Can I use lead bullets? No, we recommend the use of jacketed ammunition only.

Replace the factory Glock barrel with a Lone Wolf, Storm Lake or KKM barrel and you can shoot all the lead bullets you want. Better chamber support as well.
It's about the octagonal rifling in the factory barrels. Go standard rifling and it'll be fine.

I shot over 12,000 of my lead bullets in my G35, at 1000 fps.
Doesn't Glock reccomend only that you shoot factory ammo? How many of you have shot a reloaded cartridge in your Glock?

There's a small detail---they're saying don't shoot reloaded ammo because there's a possibility of a bad handload exceeding acceptable pressure (like we all believe all factory ammo is perfect, ehhh?) and they will void your warranty if you do. They are flat saying you cannot shoot lead bullets [safely].
I'm sure you've done as you say you've done, but I'm also sure you're not the average shooter. You're a cast bullet guy, and knowing what's up and being an astute shooter might allow you to do what the average yokel won't get away with. But we both also know that there are plenty of maroons out there who wouldn't know the first thing about lead buildup in a bore, and it's these people who have had the kabooms shooting lead bullets in Glocks.
So, the Glock's "inability" to utilize lead bullets is not mythical, and it's not something that can be universally ignored. There are some gray areas.

I shoulda, but it didn't occur to me. I shot 'em all.
This took place at an indoor range in NE Albuquerque. There was a large window between the indoor range and the rest of the store and there were about a half dozen guys on the range shooting, plus myself. After I'd finished firing my five rounds, I made the pistol safe and put it back in the case and went through the door into the store area. My brother-in-law was standing there laughing. I thought he was laughing at me and when I told him to can it he started laughing even harder. He said he wasn't laughing at me, he was laughing at all the other guys out there because when I touched off that first round he saw everybody else's feet come about six inches off the floor.

Purchased a Glock 21 brand new in 2001. Ran it for 10 years without any problems, but never felt I had a good handle on it Sold it and got my Springfield Operator. Still no issues, and I can shoot much tighter with it. Glocks run no matter what, and I can see the use in combat. But for my purposes, I'll take my 1911.

Most of the MARSOC teams I work with are split on the whole Glock / 1911 deal. The majority still carry their 1911 but more and more I come across a couple of the younger kids that love themselves their Glock. For me, my personal carry would have been a 1911. Was issued one a few moons back while in the Navy. After I joined the Army though, I was initially issued the Beretta 92F ( as I recall) and hated it. Shortly after training was over I swapped back and forth between a Sig P226 or the Glock 19.

Sticking with the 1911 and don't have to worry about the sun warping something I depend on.

Sticking with the 1911 and don't have to worry about the sun warping something I depend on. Lol really?? You do understand that the melting point of Nylon 6, which is what Glock frames are made out of, is above 400*. Softening point is 375*. I think if its 375 degrees outside, hot enough to warp a Glock frame, you have bigger problems than your gun melting.. Pretty sure your body would melt before the Glock frame.

Sticking with the 1911 and don't have to worry about the sun warping something I depend on. Maybe the dumbest thing I've read in a while. As far as the topic at hand. I'd both guns are equally reliable, and I know I'm walking into a combat situation (not a Walmart parking lot stick up of a chl holder) I'll take over double the rounds without a reload every time. Regardless of wether it's a .45 or 9mm. What's the difference in weight between a 1911 and the glock both fully loaded? I'd guess it's about the same. And it's easier to find places to store mags for the glock on your person because you need way less of them to get the same number of rounds.

They're just different guns. Different strengths and weakness, different purposes, different everything. One is more _________ than the other, sure. I'd have both and do (except I think an XD is better than a Glock and that's what I have). Now we can start another thread and pointlessly argue about Glocks and XDs for the next week.

I like both equally. I own many Colt 1911's and Glocks. Each go bang every single time. Sticking with the 1911 and don't have to worry about the sun warping something I depend on. Good thing it doesn't get hot in Texas in the summer time.

I like my XD and XDm's.
I do need to try out a Glock, though. I've shot them before but never owned one. I have XDm and XD because to me by comparison the grips feel fantastic.

I have an XD and a buddy at work loves his glocks. I can't shoot with his as well as I can my XD and he can't shoot with mine as well as he can his Glocks. We're both about equally as proficient with our own weapon. I think both the Glock and XD are a little overpriced. Each is a fine $400 handgun. Once it goes past that, I'd rather have a Sig for the money. FWIW, I paid $325 last year for my XD9 used. Awesome little gun. Wife took a basic pistol class over the weekend and shot great with it. Perfect score on the CHL target and she has almost zero experience. Not many guns that easy to shoot.

It's a clone of a Croatian hs2000. Doesn't means it's not a good pistol, I'd trust one, but a little marketing and all of a sudden a ~$400 pistol is ~$550-$600
