Hey guys...just wanted to give y'all an update. We just returned from our annual trip to HUNTERS CREEK RANCH! And wow..about sums it up.
8 guys brought home 21 hogs! Plus we were unable to recover 1 more. We saw tons of hogs !! BIG OLE PIGS! Of the 5 yrs going down there, this year we saw probably the most hogs ever. We did not limit out but hey, that's hunting! Every hunter got a hog and had shot opportunities.
Bob and Doreen run an outstanding ranch! The food was top notch as always! The sleeping area was very clean and comfortable. With 8 hunters down there, we had plenty of room to spread out between the two lodges.
As for the hunting area, Bob has built new box blinds at some of the feeders. They are set up for rifle shots but they have ladder stands at each feeder that are set more for bow shots! While we were there we had 3 different trappers show up with some pig ole hogs that Bob purchased and put back into the ranch. He does an outstanding job knowing about how Many hogs are in there.
This yr we took a tour of HUNTERS CREEK RANCH free range area. Wow...1000s of acres of THICK/NASTY stuff. It's a short drive down the road from the ranch house. Saw tons of hog sign (1 field was rooted so bad we could hardly ride our 4 wheelers through it). They are in there thick. However we did not take the opportunity to hunt there. Talking with Bob, it sounds like they will be purchasing more land near the ranch that they plan to have ready to go around Oct 2015.
As you can tell, I love this place. I've hunted hogs in Oklahoma and Texas for over 14yrs now and this place is right there at the top. Bob says that if you are planning on booking a hunt, you better call early, they are booking up fast and a year out!!
I'll try and post some pics a little later!!
If you want any info on HUNTERS CREEK RANCH..let me know.
Thanks

So he buys hogs to replenish the population? That just doesn't seem right. I bet his neighbors are thrilled. Most folks want the hogs gone. They destroy farm and cattle grazing land. I guess to draw folks who dont have hunting land and to make a buck some will do that.

I may be wrong, but from what I understand, the pigs are in a big high fence and can't escape. It's a good situation for folks who want to put some pigs on the ground and have limited time or hunting experience.

Pigs aren't supposed to be able to get out. Good people

One of the reasons some of the places that buy wild hogs pay more for the larger hogs. The hunting ranches pay them good money for the larger ones.
They don't have to have a high fence to to deter the hogs, just a good strong net fence like a 13-48. Some also add a strand of "predator wire" at the bottom which helps to keep them from rooting under.

Thanks guys...it was a fantastic hunt as usual. Bob and Doreen are GREAT people that go out of their way to ensure you are having a great hunting experience.
And yes, that us correct. It is a low mesh type fence. Hogs are definitely getting into his place under/through the fence. They are coming to the food and the sows in heat..It is actually a benefit to his neighbors! Haha. We actually witnessed a big ole boar trying to get into the fenced area on the first morning. Not to mention that this place is so thick, you hardly notice there is a fence there. Supper thick area, hardwoods, creeks, etc. btw. Be sure to bring muck type boots...it's ALWAYS muddy/swampy out there.
Cheetah..be sure to tell them I said hello! You will have a BLAST!
We also tried our hand at some free range hunting on some private land. We were there for 2 nights and only saw 1 pig. We didn't hunt like we should have. There were a lot of pigs there but we didn't stay out long enough. After driving 12 hrs down we were pretty wiped out and only made it til about 9pm. Then we headed to HUNTERS CREEK RANCH the 2nd night there.. That is why we like HUNTERS CREEK RANCH. It allows us shot opportunities at wild hogs. The private land we hunted didn't have feeders etc out so we had to spread out on the ranch and wait for them.
Thanks again. (Still working on the pictures )

Bob and Doreen are great folk. I took a crew of 8 last year and had a blast. Bob has 200 acres of double fenced in land to hunt on. He pays farmers for their trapped hogs and deposits them in his fence area. His Box blinds are big and comfy (he uses plush office chairs in them). And he even has a few double blinds if you want to hunt with someone. Bob is very acommadating and as long as your request is not unsafe he is willing to oblige. Which reminds me I need to get in touch with him about this years hunt!

It's on their site, but IIRC it is $550 per hunter for a 2 day hunt, that gets you 4 hogs per hunter, all inclussive, sleeping, showers, Meals and refreshments (not booze).
