I sell new firearms at Cabela's. We had a department meeting Sunday and it was announced that the Gun Library is very low on inventory and is actively pursuing used firearms to purchase. The downside as you all know is that sellers are paid wholesale not retail.
I read the rules and did not see where this thread would be in violation. If it is then by all means delete it.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

If you are desperate to sell your gun take it to Cabelas and expect a low ball price.
If you wanna a shot at trying to get a fair price post it on THF.
That's the straight truth and I will never try and trade with Cabelas again on guns.

It is not lowball but wholesale. I would never sell at wholesale and in fact sell my firearms on this site. But many people don't want the hassle and worry about selling to felons so they sell to Cabela's or similar businesses. If Cabela's offers you what your firearm is worth, how can they make any money? I do believe that most of the time their used firearms are overpriced but once in a blue moon you come across a steal.

Neither will I!!!! After a pretty hassling ordeal with them on a new Weatherby that I bought and made 3 trips to the store(about 80 miles round trip)over a optics issue that never did get resolved and a letter to their corporate office that went ignored, I have never set foot in Cabela's again.

And that's why it's the good ole USA--shop anywhere you want. His post is clear, he's not asking for opinions--if you want to sell it there, do it, if you don't-he probably doesn't care.

Who cares what he asked for or didn't? He posted up that they will buy your guns. Others have as much of a right to tell people its a hassle and they will low ball the hell out of you. Edit: Not meaning this to crap on the OP. People who want to play Junior Moderator get under my skin sometimes. lol

You are correct, I don't care. This bashing is getting pretty funny though. I get asked a couple of times a day if we buy or take trade ins on used guns. My response is always, "Yes but you need to understand you will be offered wholesale, not retail. If you have a gun that is worth $500.00 we will offer you $250.00-$300.00." I've then done my job as a caring human bean.

very few gun shops pay more than wholesale, the gunshow dealers are notorious for buying at even lower than wholesale

Let's see if I'm understanding this correctly, Cabelas pays wholesale (~80%) of retail and/or resale for used guns?
So if I take something in that's NIB/100% condition, and it wholesales for $800, and real world retail (not msrp) is $1000, I can expect to get close to $800?
Or is it more like they pay a PERCENTAGE of wholesale (60%, 70%, 80%, etc) based on condition?

Or is it more like they pay a PERCENTAGE of wholesale (60%, 70%, 80%, etc) based on condition? If you bring it in it legally is not NIB and cannot be sold as such by a licensed firearms dealer. It would be considered used and 99%. You or I as individuals could advertise it as NIB and sell it no problem, but not a dealer. The wholesale price of a used firearm is based on condition. So say you have a used firearm to sell and the dealer judges it to be in 75% condition. What you will be offered is nominally based on the blue book value of that firearm in that condition. So if the wholesale blue book value at 100% is $800.00 then you would be offered $600.00. But if the firearm is in high demand you could be offered more and conversely you could be offered less. Time of year plays a factor also. If tomorrow I decided to sell my Vanguard 30-06 I would try to wait until late August to sell it, unless I had an emergency and needed cash.

I know of dealers in this area that will gouge you much worse than Cabela's. I have sold around twenty firearms in the last five years. Two of them were sold to dealers. I sold shotguns to Bargain Hunter Outdoors in Weatherford and thought their offers were exceptionally fair.

Thanks for the explanation--I did notice this last weekend that there were fewer used gun racks out on the floor. Do they usually offer more value if it's being traded TOWARDS another gun in stock, versus paying cash?
