How old should a pup be before starting to use one?

What kind of training collar? Choke chains are worthless so I guess you mean ping or shock collar? Around six months is typical
I'll take a Black Female every time.

Thanks for the response. Yes I was thinking of a shock collar.

I let my dogs start wearing them at 4 months old to get them used to the collar. I start using it when the pup is 6 months old. Remember to put the collar on everyday once you start using it to help prevent the dog from becoming collar wise.

Good advice so far. I would add that the age is not as important as the person holding the transmitter. Some programs start as young as 4 months, most others about 6+. My advice, don't turn it on until you have checked out a program that lines out how to use it.
Good luck.

Good luck. I agree. With my pups I start at 4+/- months. If you've never collar conditioned a dog then get Bill Hillman's puppy video or work with a pro.
