I originally thought it was from 4 to 5 years of age. I've noticed that most of our deer make their biggest jump in antler size between 3 and 4. Seem like at 5 they gain mass more than anything. Maybe an extra sticker or point. What do y'all think or what are your experiences?

As a percentage, most I have seen jump the most from 1.5 to 2.5, followed by 2.5 to 3.5 and then 3.5 to 4.5. I left out .5 to 1.5 because most I see don't have antlers at 0.5, so when you divide by 0, you get an error.
Most I have been around continue to grow until around 6.5 and then they start declining. They may put on more mass, put tine length starts to go down hill.
This is all based on Grayson County Texas to Carter County Oklahoma to Northeast Kansas and North Central Missouri.

I was just discussing this today. We had some pics of a buck from last year that we think was 5.5 or 6.5. He took a jump and put on over 20" this year! We thought that he would have already reached his potential last year but we learned something!

I think between 4.0-5.5 are the biggest jumps.

Good gosh! Unbelievable early jump!! I don't know if it was just coincidence or what but he pretty much stayed at the only setup we had protein at. He was there almost everyday in the offseason.

Pittstate's calculations on % jump are probably correct; but in our area, we notice that bucks go from obvious juveniles with potential at 3.5 to mature looking deer with nice racks at 4.5. Then we typically see very little change in antler inches beyond 4.5. Antler decline usually begins in the 6.5-7.5 range around here.

In order to determine this you would need to have the exact same population rainfall forage etc every year. Could have a little less rainfall year from 3-4 and 4-5 YO which shows a lesser increase and then it is a wet year from 5-6 and "appears" to make a huge jump, but it was really due to the rainfall, not the magic difference between 5 & 6 years old.

I have a small high fence place for the family. Not commercially hunted. I usually see the biggest jumps between 2 and 3. At 2 they typically look small still and long skinny legged at three its hard to tell them apart from the 4 year olds and their horns start to get more mass, and more bumps and character on the horns and seem to make big jumps between 2 and 3. that's just my opinion....

As far as jumps a lot will depend on the ranch as well as a lot of other factors. Management practices on what and how they cull numbers will effect scores greatly also on some ranches. I have seen yearling bucks that scored in the 100 range or more that made great jumps at 2 but that would look good on paper since they were bigger at 1. Seen bucks make a huge jumps at any age class. Seems that if the buck has good genetics and good groceries then they make really big jumps from 2 to 3 yrs of age. Biggest jump in total inches I have see was a 3 yr old that jumped 60+" at 4 yrs of age. Here are 4 yrs of the same buck. I do not know what he was as a yearling buck but I can guarantee you he had 6 or more points since all bucks with less than 6 were shot. 2 yr old 3 yr old 160 more or less guess on score 4 yr old 200 guess on score since I found one shed that year 5 yr old and he grossed just over 240 that year when he was killed

The buck killed on Las Raices Ranch a couple of years was around 210 or so at 6 yrs old then blew up to and grossed just over 307" in a very wet year. A lot of ranches in South Texas will try to wait till 7 yrs of age and pray for the right rains.
