Thinking about putting a magwell on my new Sig 1911. It currently has CRimson Trace grips. Which would be better or easier a standard magwell or a one piece magwell/mainspring housing?

The mainspring housing is much better than a standard magwell. The Tecwell is the best, however.

Mainspring\magwell combo for sure. Much better fit in my opinion.

I put a Wilson Combat drop in well on a SA. I have to carve out the back of the grips so they seat right. Its a beating. Get a Ed Brown (snakeskin is awesome) or Wilson MSH w/ magwell.

It's barely better than no magwell.

How will my Crimson trace grips fit with the addition of a magwell? Do you normally have to trim grips?

Just depends. The 1911 platform is not plug and play most of the time stuff has to be hand fit. That is what makes it the gun it is.

Usually they will need a little trimming.

Walter So I may have to trim the Crimson trace grips? If that's the case I guess I'll have to pass until I sell the grips and put on a set of night sights.

A MSH shouldn't require much if any fitting. No need to trim the CT grips. At least this has been my experience. Drop-in MSH with magwell should look like this.

The grips will work with a magwell but will look funny. They are beveled on the bottom not cut for a magwell so you'll have a gap.

If you're talking about grips those are magwell cut grips.
