Things start easier with the kill switch in. Why was it out? Have you backed in with plug out yet? I did that once lol.

I had a kill switch error (brain fart)- which made me instantly think my starter battery was out so I started pulling the pull cord on my motor to start it manually... then I broke the pull cord. Looked down and saw my kill switch hanging off of my PFD where it belongs and just shook my head.
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

Try taking off with your trolling motor still in the water! If you have one it is minimum $230.00 to replace a shaft if that is all you damage.

Things start easier with the kill switch in. That's what happens when you never take the rig out of the garage, haha. You need more practice. I have done several things, my biggest mistake was not putting my motor in neutral on my first hunting trip after switching from my Godevil rig to my Mudbuddy. After setting decoys out, it would not start so I pushed the boat over to hide it worrying about it not starting all morning till I figured it out after the hunt. Another solo trip, I tied to a 4" wide tree about 8 feet long and forgot to untie after the hunt, when I got back to the ramp I notice I was dragging it the whole time, boat still ran fine though. In a hurry one morning, forgot to remove tie down straps on the back so it just floated the trailer, felt pretty stupid about that one. You will have more stories if you take that thing out of the garage.

My first season with a boat and let's see,
Ran out of gas with no backup gas on the boat.
Drove all the way to the ramp, went to put the boat in and realized I left the key at home.
Backed in without putting the plug in but I caught that almost immediately so no harm done.
And still haven't shot a 2 man limit out of my boat, it's been a hard year of learning that's for sure but also a lot of fun. My first full year of duck hunting nothing but public and we've shot 102 ducks so far. Not what I was hoping for but its been a good time.
Say When.....

Had a buddy's dog try to get out of the wind behind the console and hit the kill switch. He was trying for a reason, waves were rollin and we weren't too far from a rocky bank. Definitely a pucker moment.
Lost a couple of plugs. Launched without one a couple of times. Luckily was able to get back on the trailer pretty quick.
Had somebody steal gas in the HPMMU a few years ago. Was scouting with my son on the opposite side of the lake from the ramp and ran out. Trolling motor fuse popped after a few hundred yards. Not good.
I've had the boat blind suck water into the back of the boat a few times. It won't make the trip on days over 15 MPH winds any more.
Yesterday I hunted a timber spot. Hiding the boat I felt my boot fill up with water. Friggin' cut the boot on something. Powered thru tho, couldn't feel my foot by the time we were done.
