I cracked the stock on my Thompson Hawkins. So i thought i would change it's look just a little bit. order a new stock and replaced the brass with steal pieces.

Mighty fine Whistler. Beautiful wood. I too prefer the steel furniture.

I think the browned steel goes better with the stripes then brass.

Beautiful job on your Hawken!
And I believe most (or all?) of the old-time guns built by the Hawken brothers used blued or browned steel, rather than brass. So your gun is more "period-correct."

Nice job. Is that real curly maple? Browned hardware looks good. I have a similar rifle but I put on a fixed rear sight, it is smaller and I think gives a little more streamline look although it isn't adjustable.

Yes it's real maple that I tiger stripped. I'm looking for another rear sight for it. Thinking about cutting a dovetail in it for the rear sight

Well you have done one of the best jobs at tiger striping that I've seen. Congrats. Try Dixie Gun Works or Track of the Wolf for a replacement rear sight. They also sell lower front sights although I think I'd put on the rear and then just file down the front. I use paper shims under the rear if I need to tighten up a little. Once again, you did a really good job.

Hmmm. But that trigger guard doesn't look like one from a Renegade and Renegades don't have nose caps. Where on line?
