What were you shooting, distance, where did you THINK you hit? A well hit deer 9 times out of 10 you will call your shot without much doubt. You picked up good blood immediately you prolly had a big exit. If you went through the wheel house you may have walked right by him in less than 100 yards. Set up a search pattern and cover the ground slowly. If you can't call your shot (it just happens sometimes) he may still be down but you will need some help. Good luck to you and I hope you find your rack.

I'd have called a dog yesterday or lined one up for this morning if at all possible.

This can happen. I've been deer hunting for 50 years. I have lost 4 that had to go somewhere and die. I remember all 4 very well.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP

Hope you find your deer. Had a friend of a friend who always shoots his deer in the neck so they dont run off. Well after shooting a big trophy in the neck he could not find his deer after 2 days of searching. Heavy blood trail, dogs, backtracking, and nothing. 5 days later his camera sends a pic to his phone of the buck he shot with a massive hole blown thru the neck. He went back to his hunting lease and found the deer dead 30 yards from his camera.
