I knew this deer might be very difficult to kill due to very few pictures of him during daylight hours.
When he showed up a couple weeks ago I asked my son if he wanted to hunt him and he said no and I knew it was probably due to being a bit worn down from still playing ball. I told him if I went and he showed up, I would not be able to pass on a shot at him. He said go ahead dad.

Well, we were in Houston all day Saturday for a HSFB game and got home late so I didn't hunt until Sunday evening. I saw a couple of young bucks but he was a no show. I was able to get off work a few minutes early Monday and got in the stand just after the feeder went off at 5:00. At 5:40 I had a couple does and a 1.5 year old 7 point come out onto the oats. A couple minutes later they all started staring across the fence into the neighbors so I grabbed my binoculars and started scanning the mesquite brushline. I saw movement back in the brush and almost immediately saw horns. I knew it was a pretty good buck and then he took a couple steps and I could see him more clearly and indentified him as the really big 3.5 year old I'd been seeing. He made his way over the fence and onto the oats and was followed by a 2.5 year old 8 point and a couple more does.

At about 6:00 they all threw their heads up and looked across the fence and started staring. It was getting pretty dim already and I started staring through the binoculars and low and behold I see the solid white throat all the way down and figured it had to be him..........I'd named him the Big Brow 8 a couple years ago. When he finally turned his head I saw the tall tines and the big brows and knew it was him. I also knew I was running out of legal shooting light in a BIG hurry.

I put down my binoculars and grabbed the rifle and stuck it out the window. Luckily he walked straight up to the 6-strand fence and jumped in the field and came fast at one of the does and started running her. I had the 308 on him and I grunted loudly at him twice and he did not stop.........I whistled and he put the brakes on and I let one go. He dropped in his tracks. It was only about a 100 yard shot or so and I knew it was a good one so I gathered my stuff and crawled down out of the stand and headed that way. As I approached he got bigger and bigger with every step and I knew by the time I was up to him I'd underestimated him an he was over 140".

He is a heck of a deer, especially for our area.
The horns I'm holding in the one picture are of the 1st buck from about 5 weeks ago.
Keep in mind that I'm no small guy at 6'4" 250....lol

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

What a great buck!! I like the length of each of the horns. What area of Texas did you take him?

Very nice 8 pt, but I need to point out mistakes in your score sheet. Not trying to be a A/H. Many people make this mistake. On an 8 pt there is not a H-4 or as you call it the C-4. You only have a H-4 measurement if there is a G4 point. The main beam is not considered the G4. There are also a few errors in the math.

Bexar County. About 25 miles or so from downtown SA

Unless the B&C system has changed recently, 4 mass measurements are always taken from each side. On an 8 it is taken 1/2 way from the end of the beam to the G3. And yes, I realize the 'official' circumference is called 'H', not 'C' as I listed it.

Please show me my math errors on the addition as I cannot find any on this sheet.
