I came out here prepared for 1000 yards and made a shot on the buck at freakin 40 yards. I hit him high in the lungs. Exit wound was about 1 1/2". He ran 100 yards and I watched him fall. Here's exactly what I found when I got to him, massive blood loss. When I rolled him onto his back the same amount of blood in the pic poured out of the exit side. I had to drag him five yards so I wouldn't be wading in blood. Elk, whitetail, javelena, and now Mulie buck and the bullet is batting a thousand. Lung on the ground, and lung fragments in the ribcage.

Call me picky, but I want a trackable blood trail without complete annihilation... Really. I mean really you're gonna talk smack about that much dead. I never looked for a trail because I hit him, I watched him run, I watched him fall and it was over. Annihilation of his lungs, nothing else. There's no pleasing some people

wanna see a head shot on a hog..
do you normally want the bullet placement behind the shoulder or do you go high to go after the spine? always wanted to try spine shots esp with the 300 win mag in 208 or 230 bergers

Your happy with it then that's great. Exits wounds I could drop a cantelope into are the reason why I no longer use ballistic tips, hornacy interlocks and most other soft point cup and core bullets. Short range and 3000+ fps more often than not yields a blood bath. I don't want a blood bath.

First post says "exit wound was 1 1/2"
I know you can read a tape and know what diameter means.

In all honesty I missed the bit about the 1.5 inch exit.

Well, for me he ain't quite dead enough Nice shot Fireman...as you know sometimes the close ones can be harder than the longer ones. Congrats bud, it's meat in the freezer.

I came out here prepared for 1000 yards and made a shot on the buck at freakin 40 yards. Hahah, isn't that always how its goes??? Something happens to mess up the plan. Good shooting! I love those Berger bullets too, accurate and deadly. Thanks for posting, pushing that bullet 3080 fps and hitting at only 40 yards would make one think the bullet would just disintegrate on the deer. That didn't happen though, definitely did its job and exited. Seeing posts like this influenced me to try Bergers and now their all I use.
