Always messing with stuff and just curios what would make it better. Got a 700 AAC-sd 300 blackout to play with. Out of the box accuracy is great as my brother has one already. New trigger? Would ideally like a box mag also. What else would you change to make it a great all around gun.

lap the bolt lugs, new trigger, but the black out will be plus or minus depending on how far you are shooting.

Trigger will be priority number one Yep, having the trigger lightened to a crisp 2-1/2 pounds made my Remington 700 ADL a true tack driver.

I swapped the trigger on mine for a Timney and dropped it in a Manners stock and it is sub-MOA at 100 yards with supers and subs.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

for 300 black out i would only do a trigger. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a 200 yard gun

All I did to my 308 AAC was put a Timney trigger in. Busted two good deer with it this season.

I'm just worried about leaving that stuff in there and I aint twisting the barrel back off to get it out. Lol. I should just bite the bullet

Trigger #1. A gun smith should be able to clean up the factory trigger and make it decent. Aftermarket is always good if you want to spend the money. I'd clean up the factory one on this type of rifle, though. I added a simple bolt knob enlargement on the end of the bolt knob. It helps get a better grip on it and aid in cycling the bolt. DBM is up to you. Just make sure the barrel is free floated and you should be GTG.

I just got finished replacing the factory triggers on all four of my 700 rifles with Timney triggers. What stock do you recommend for a good hunting replacement? I have three stainless sps in .270, 300 winmag .30-06. I also have a VTR .308. Most of my shots range from 100-300 yards.

I put on a Bell and Carlson takeoff I had on my last build, and like it so far. I have used McMillan, AICS and HS P mostly, and all are pretty good. The only one I would not use again is MPI.

I'm fine with the factory stock just would prefer a detachable mag so if that's doable I'd be happy that way

Never kick a bull in the rear when it is walking away from you. If you can shoot a rifle accurately then why change it. The only thing I have ever done to wring out a little more accuracy is to make sure the barrel is fully floated and change out the trigger to a Timney. Thus far the only rifle I have done this to is a Remington 700.

well I just ordered a Bell and Carlson Medalist Classic Checkered stock for my .30-06 I haven't modified any of my bolt action rifles until now. I have just noticed inconsistent groups with my .30-06 and have been trying to dial it in to feel 100% confident in my primary hunting rifle. Is there anything I need to do to the stock prior to install? The rifle has always grouped well enough for hunting but it makes me uncomfortable on shots beyond 150-175. It will shoot sub moa groups but not consistently. My hopes are with the new Timney trigger set at 2lbs and this stock I can consistently group sob moa at 100 yards. I currently have a Nikon Buck master 4.5-14 40mm BDC on it that I will be removing and replacing with a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14 40mm CDS. I have one on my 300 win mag and love it.

lap the bolt lugs, new trigger, but the black out will be plus or minus depending on how far you are shooting. Just did the marker test on my 700, the bolt lug on the right side is touching and the left side is barely making contact. Is laping the bolt lugs something I could do at home or do I want a gun smith to do it? I read an article about how to DIY but I am worried about screwing up the headspace.

While a lot of repairs/modifications can be made as a DIY project, if you are the least bit unsure on how to do the work or don't have the right tools get a gunsmith to do the job. You life if not worth the amount of money you save by doing it yourself.
