Anyone own this safe or bought a safe from Academy?

Considering this one:
http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=co...0340-00542-6030

Seems like a pretty good deal.

I got one of those from Academy, when they were on sale for 600 a few months ago. Not a top of the line safe but good quality.

It gets confusing when you start comparing other safes. I'm wondering if Academy specifies less "features" to meet a price point (e.g. thinner steel, cheaper lock, less security features). I saw Champion safes at a gun show. They were considerably more expensive ($1200 - 1700) for a comparable price to the Cannon at Academy.

I am looking at the one that Dicks had on sale this week and the safe at Sams. Sams has a 24gun safe for 623 and Dicks had the 28 Gun safe on sale for 699. I saw that one at Academy also but I can't spend that much for a safe right now.

I'm thinking of the Champion Medalist or Trophy that is 36 inches wide. The Trophy is 5 1/2 inches deeper and 15 minutes longer in fire protection.

JMO, as for the fire protection rating, most say 1500 degree's for 30 min and 300 degrees inside. The fire retardant stuff inside is gypsum, fire retardant sheet rock. And 300 degrees inside, thnk about what your guns or important documents would look like in an oven at 300 degrees for 30 min anyway.
Mine has a fire rating on it too but, the main reason I bought mine was to keep my guns from being stolen

Picked mine up a Sams 24 gun for about $600.00. I weights #650 and has the mechanical combo lock. I did see one on sale Gander Mountain for $499.00 looked like a good deal.
What ever you get you want be sorry.

Perhaps this will help you with your decision. The safe is rated for 0NE HOUR @ 1200 deg.

I'm thinking of going with one that is 36" or 37" wide. The Cannon at Academy is 30" wide. Looking at the Champion Trophy or Medalist now.

I saw a Cannon or Liberty at Sams yesterday with a digital lock for 688 I think. It is a 12 to 24 gun I think.

Have one just like it, bought it about 8 years ago. It is FULL, definitely get one bigger than you currently need.

I need to be able to store 12 long guns with 4 having scopes on one half of the safe. The other half for various other stuff.

I'm checking out other shops besides Academy. Also, considering having it shipped in.

Sturdy Safes
Smith Security
Other Cannon models not available through Academy
Champion safes through local company
Liberty through local locksmith store

Have you checked out Liberty Safes in Garland Texas. They usually have some floor models for good prices.

Liberty Safes is now The Safe Company. They handle Champion and several other more expensive safe products.

What about the American Eagle safe by Cannon at Academy? Adequate for the money? Looking at the largest one - AE35.

I'm wondering if I should just keep my smaller safe and put it right next to my new safe. I have a space where I could put my new safe in a corner and then put my old safe right next to it. The old safe would then "protect" the new safe from brute force attack from the side. I could put my less expensive items in the older safe and more expensive in the new safe.

I think if I had multiple safes, they would be in different hiding places? But I only have a Homak, and it may have a buyer in Corpus in the next few days? Now I gotta run to an estate sale with guns and a safe. Report later.
