Anybody killed any around East Tx? Never seen one until this morning, wasn't sure if they were just more common than I thought.

I am 98% sure that I saw either a black or a surf scoter at the end of the season 2 years ago in Wood Co. I definitely did a triple-take!

We've killed 2. Both were juvi drakes in with redheads.

Killed a juvie surf at TB and another on the coast. Pretty common but every one I have ever heard of is a juvie. Guess they get lost somewhere and just stick to whatever flock of divers they end up with.

A buddy of mine & I shot one down on the coast a few weeks ago. It was odd.

Shot 3 surf scoter hens over the past 10 years or so down here in corpus, I'll try to see if I can find some pics. Def a different bird in flight and after you see one you don't forget what they look like

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is a surf scoter hen. This is the only pic I can find of the ones that I've shot or been on a hunt where one was killed.

They are all juvies. Juvies and hens look real similar.
